Depends on the salary and term. Anything more than 2.5 mill 3 years and you go with Lazar or free agent (ie, Iginla)

Another thing you have to consider with a guy like Versteeg is that not only does he have roots here (like Stone) but he's bounced around a lot over the past few years. Since 2011, Versteeg has played for Toronto, Philadelphia, Florida, Chicago, Carolina, Los Angeles, and Calgary... seven teams in six years. It's entirely possible that he'll take less to settle down with a team in his hometown where he knows he'll get time on the first powerplay unit.

Won't even mind if they give him Brouwer money! This guy makes things happen.
That 3rd line was solid near the last part of the season.

Great hands. Creative. Really pushed hard as he could in the playoffs. Re-sign.

I would definitely re-sign him if we are able to get rid of Stajan, Brouwer, and Bouma. Otherwise, we really need to rebuild the bottom 6 with energy guys like Hathaway and bring up some young guyd in order to stay competitive with the cap.

I think he had a solid season but the bottom 6 is alreadu clogged with veterans making a lot of money... just would be afraid to give him even a Bouma type of contract as in the past he hasn't always lived up to it.
1 year deal around 1 mil would be great... but we really need to start bringing in farm guys to see what they can do... seems to be working for all the succesful teams especially the Hawks in recent years

Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes
Versteeg: "Great guys. One of the best leaders I've ever played for. Great young guys all want to learn & get better. Great coaching staff."
Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Kris Versteeg (as transcribed by @DarrenWHaynes): "Personally, I fell in love with the game again so it was nice."

Absolutely, unless he's asking for way more than we can give him.
Good on the powerplay, great vet, competes hard in the playoffs, and a shootout specialist too.

These versatile depth guys go a long way to keeping a season stable through injuries, and he was lights-out during the playoffs. I would Treliving manages to re-sign him to a fair contract.

Lots of value this year at a great price. From interviews, he seems like he is an asset in the room as well. If he can be signed to a fair deal, you have to bring him back. Sounds like he would love to come back to Calgary as well.
With that said, in a whole team of players who seemed off tonight, I thought he stuck out as particulary gripping the stick tight this eve.

Yes only if short term deal. 2 years max. On wrong side of 30. Probably will cost us though, 2.5 million/yr which we can barely squeeze out of the cap when we also need to sign 4D, 5D and a 1G. Will also prevent us from going for a true 1RW.
We also need to make room for Jankowski and Lazar at least. LV probably takes Stajan so that becomes Jankowski's spot. Lazar still ends up platooning with Chiasson and Brouwer which is probably okay.
I suspect we are also re-signing Chiasson unless we go for a 1RW.

Versteeg was excellent for his pay grade this season - total steal, in fact. So, absolutely as long as it's reasonable term < 3 years and price < $2.5 million per.
