You better keep your friend away from the internet or he’s going to be in for a world of hurt when he realizes Shawshank may not be the only film pretending to be in a city they’re not.

The guerrilla marketing campaign for that movie was pretty awesome, too. They put up Missing Persons notices around coffee shops and stuff that looked totally legitimate.

The Third Man, for that matter almost any noir classic

Truly Madly Deeply, Alan Rickman's possibly best film

So good it made the vernacular.

Tommy Boy, Chris Farley at his peak, and an amazing supporting cast. I've lost count on how many times I've seen it, but I'll still watch it whenever it comes on

Christmas Vacation and Die Hard. They always get re-watched during the holidays and never get old

My Cousin Vinny. If your movie is still referenced in law schools decades later and cited by supreme court justices, you probably did a pretty good job

Made me think of another one. Perhaps perfect is over-stating but for what it is - it's pretty great.
Duel.
Edit: Actually a made for TV movie and Spielberg's debut

I look forward to the next Ghostbusters, which takes place in Calgary and surrounding area.

Good point. There are actually a few Pixar movies that are virtually perfect.

I think this is about perfect movies, not just movies you really enjoy. We're talking films that are top of the class, across the board (script, pacing, acting, technical etc).

I was thinking earlier about nominating The Big Lebowski as being the closest thing I could come up with to the perfect comedy... but I think this might be a better choice.

This thread should definitely be "Favourite" not "Perfect".

I loved Dark Knight too, even the "plot holes" that people point out, actually make sense.

No Joker didn't intend to get caught like Gordon said, he just had a contingency plan if he did.

He had one trigger for both boats because they'd both blow up if anyone pulled the trigger.

Joker left the party after Batmam jumped out the window because that (wrongly) confirmed that Batman was Harvey Dent. He had no use for anyone else at the party so he left, not unlike he did with the mobster meeting.

Also, despite Batman catching him in the end, Joker won, he achieved his ultimate goal, he turned Gotham against Batman.

Throw in a better than perfect performance by Heath Ledger and viola.

Also, with Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne totally killed his wife and her lover. Great movie, makes you feel for the murderer, he redeems himself with a perfect plan of escape to make up his failed perfect plan for murder.

disagree. the thread is based off the outrage about a possible princess bride remake.

The idea of the thread is a movie you love so much that it's perfect as is, despite any flaws (like the ROUS in Princess Bride)

you wouldn't change a thing given the chance. no remakes and no changes later as per George Lucas.

The intent for the thread was definitely to be about movies you wouldn't change a single thing about. I was hoping to force people to think a little harder than just their favourite movies with rose-coloured glasses on. Be a little more critical of the things you love.

Ghostbuster is a top 3 movie of all time for me. I freaking love it, but I would definitely allow for those dogs to be remastered a bit. The claymation effects are really dated and obvious now. You can say "but that's part of the charm" but it doesn't take away that they look bad. The movie would not be ruined if some improvements were made to the special effects.

TBH, most special effects heavy movies of the 80 and 90s would be fine with some subtle remastering to improve them.

Lucas went overboard on the remastered Trilogy but some of the more subtle changes were great.

Granted, no movie is going to be 100% perfect but we're striving for as close as possible.

Anyone with half a brain knows that there is one and only one perfect film ever made and that film is Shakes the Clown. Outright lunacy in this thread.
