I agree with you, but there is always a dissenting opinion.

Cool Hand Luke.

Papillon, the original was perfect and did not need a "reboot".

Step Brothers is so perfect that I don't think I want a sequel.

However they should get some good comedy people with a worthy script to reunite John Rielly and Ferrell. Not whatever that Sherlock Holmes slosh was.

There have been a lot of really good movies that obviously shouldn't be re-made listed in here but I don't know I'd call any of them "perfect" in a similar way to Casablanca, other than, arguably, Shawshank. There's a sort of polish to them. You pretty much have to find a film that's not too ambitious, and then takes its material and knocks it clear out of the park. Which is a formula that applies to Princess Bride, but it's still not without its flaws, charming as they may be.

Maybe 12 Angry Men?
Maybe Godfather Part II?

I would almost propose Treasure of Sierra Madre but that's mostly just because I am a hopeless Bogart fan-boy.

Dunkirk was just about perfect.
Mad Max: Fury Road is absolutely perfect, perfect in every way.
Characters were meh. Movie was long and boring.

Hmmm, that's a tough call...

The Princess Bride
Trainspotting
Full Metal Jacket
Monty Python and the Holy Grail

... That's it. Maybe Fight Club too (on the fence about that one). Heat was close to but then I think about the subplot with Pacino's step-daughter and I ask myself whether or not if you cut most of those scenes would the movie be materially worse and if I can ask that then it's not perfect.

Blair Witch Project?

No one ever thought of such original film making idea before, and no one successfully copied it after.

Also, I think Matrix (the first one) is an almost perfect movie. Fresh idea for a story when it was released, but I am a little disappointed that at the end Neo beat the matrix. It would be so much greater if Neo and gang think they have beat the matrix, but it's actually the system was playing them, and they are just part of the game...

For those with kids, Disney did a great job with ‘Frozen’. It had likable and funny characters, catchy and popular songs, and a good translated storyline from the original tale it pulled from.

I hate comic book movies for the most part, but even I was just blown away by The Dark Knight (2008). It was right before studios started going to heavy, heavy CGI. Everything was so perfect in that movie.

You reminded me about the perfect kids movie (in my mind) - Wall-E. Great story. Fun for kids, and it is not cheesy even for adults.

Speaking of animations, I would echo another poster's nomination for Spirited Away as a perfect film. I honestly would not change one thing. So for me:

Casablana;
Godfather Part II;
Shawshank Redemption;
Spirited Away.

That's about it in terms of actual perfection.

With everything going on in the world, I never would have thought it would be this thread that would make me lose my faith in humanity.

That’s all I have to say about that.

Hold on now. Aliens is an action movie. Alien is the perfect sci-fi space horror movie. Alien is the better of the 2. Not saying Aliens isn't also great, just not the best.

Bullet, so much more than just the greatest car chase of all time, perfect vehicle for McQueen, where Heat took the ending from in the first place.

For what it was, SAW was really well done for a horror/thriller with creativity and a great twist ending.

I love Shawshank. A friend of mine gets upset, tho, because the scene they film that is supposed to be Zihuatanejo, Mexico was done in St Croix.
