The soundtrack though was one of the best I've ever heard. I'm a huge score buff and I can't believe I've never heard this one before. It's spectacular.
The Mission? More South American but still very, very good.

Trevor Jones' fine work.
And I totally agree. It makes the movie.
The last half of the movie is brilliant. The first half is a little slow.

Black Robe is one you may want to check out.
And I believe it was Canadian made

No Sudden Move (HBO/Crave) is pretty darn good. Fantastic cast, noir feel. It's shot with a kind of minor fisheye lens which could be distracting at times, but otherwise I really enjoyed it.

It isn’t the big IP films dragging down the industry. It’s the Netflix dollars. The 40-50 million dollar movies don’t get made anymore because they get turned into 12 episode shows on Netflix/HBO/Amazon etc

Now if you are looming for summer blockbuster that aren’t IP driven then I’d agree that IP is taking up the air but that’s not the usually the complaint in the current state of the film industry.

Space Jam 2 was a great popcorn summer movie. I thought it was just as good as the first one.

All the cameos were fun but the movie was pretty cookie-cutter. My kids enjoyed it though.

I just enjoyed seeing the droogs from A Clockwork Orange in a kid's movie.

Sorry, you had previously assumed it wasn't going to?

The first one was really pretty bad.

This was a couple hours well spent.

Look here sir....

The Original 'Space Jam' was light-hearted, family-friendly comedy and fun.

Sure, nobody is winning Oscars or anything, but it was a good time overall.

This was just a shameless cash-grab. As though movie-viewers are cattle to be milked.

They are...you just have to be at least a little discrete about it!

Black Robe might be my favorite Canadian movie. Based on the Jesuit diaries.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Robe_(film)
Quote:
Black Robe was praised as a "magnificently staged combination of top talents delivering a gripping and tragic story",[3] and has been rated one of the most meticulously researched representations of indigenous life put on film.[8] Notably, the film includes dialogue in the Cree, Mohawk, and Algonquin languages. The French characters speak English in the film. Latin is used for Catholic prayers.

Political activist Ward Churchill, after highly praising the film-making, criticized historical inaccuracies.[9] He said he thought the film vilified the Mohawks as part of a theme that Indian resistance to European culture was evil.[10]

Watched 1984 for the first time and thought it was great. I love the genre of dystopian movies, but don't watch a ton of them. Children of Men, both Blade Runners, 12 Monkeys, Planet of the Apes and V for Vendetta are some of my favorites. Welcome any recommendations you might have.

If you like Terry Gilliam wackiness, I’d recommend Brazil. I think Dark City kind of fits the bill too.

Also, read the book. It’s amazing. 1984 and Heart of Darkness are two of the only books I read in HS that weren’t trash.

They Live
Dark City
Dredd
Escape from NY (or LA)
Brazil
Equilibrium
City of Lost Children (I'm not sure where you would find this these days)
If you haven't watched Moon (light prequel to Bladerunner) or Soldier (light sequel)
Snowpiercer
Someone on here expounded on their admiration of Strange Days awhile ago
Videodrome will mess with your head
Robocop (Director's or X version)

Excellent sub-genre.

The Running Man and Waterworld for a few dark future movies. The Fifth Element, while not dystopian, created a great gritty future Earth.

Director's cut of Das Boot was added to Netflix a few weeks ago, absolutely one of my all time favs. Been too long since I watched it and it's just as good as I remember

Any of the Mad Max movies would fit the bill. District 9 is close to dystopian but still great. Akira if you're into anime. I'm not really but still love the movie. Idiocracy is great for a laugh. I wish the CGI in I Am Legend was better because it's a solid movie otherwise.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I have Dark City on Blu Ray and have been wanting to watch it for a while, might be my next watch. I've seen; They Live, Dredd, Escape from New York, Moon, Snowpiercer, Videodrome, Robo Cop , Running Man, Mad Max, District 9, Akira and I am Legend they are all great thanks for the suggestions. I will have to check out the others I haven't seen yet.

I thought of a few others, Matrix and Ghost in the Shell (I actually like both versions but the Animated one is better).

Watched Blazing Saddles (an all time fave) last weekend for the first time in years. It's still the funniest movie ever made in my opinion, but it's even more relevant now than it was in 1974.
