Hazey memory on my part. Looked it up, you are right.

Yup, Lowe got the local media on board and clearly built up the probability to Eakins, given the above reaction.
Save the "grieving processes" and other dramatic language for major injuries, deaths in family etc, not a long shot 16th forward inclusion, itself propagated only by a biased and desperate selector who is also the president of the club team.

I assumed Getzlaf would be a better faceoff guy, weird to see him below 50%.

The only reason Bouwmeester is on this team is Pietrangelo. By the same logic, Seabrook should be on the roster. I would actually be OK with that, chemistry is good.
The Nash choice needs to be explained. Iginla should be on the team before him. There are much better choices for pure RW types.
While I like the Bergeron pick for a character guy and faceoof man, you could've easily picked Giroux over him IMO.
I actually like the HAmhuis choice, he gets overlooked by a lot of people but he's one of the best shutdown guys in the league. This team needed atleast one pure shutdown guy, they have plenty of offense on the blueline already.
Personally would like to see Seguin on this team, The kid is a winner, he's been huge in Dallas -- would've picked him over Carter/Bergeron.

It's amazing how many people underrate Bergeron.

^^jbo's skating is the reason he was picked and he is also an ironman who can eat up minutes. Having is d partner with him is a plus

I think just as many people overrate him as there are people that underrate him.
He is a 50-60 point player that plays a great two way game and is great at taking faceoffs.
I have no problem with him being the 4th line center or an extra forward for Canada.

PHOENIX — The gesture was unexpected. But appreciated.
“I actually got a call from Stevie Y this morning,” reported Mark Giordano. “It was nice to hear I was right in the mix and he let me know that. That’s the way he described it to me. Didn’t have to do that, he’s a pretty busy guy right at the moment, but he still took the time to. So it was nice to hear it from him.
“A classy thing to do.”
|
Quote:
“You always hold out some hope, right ’til the end,” said Giordano. “Obviously it was going to be a tough team to crack, even if I had been healthy all season. I think a lot of things have to go right. I always considered myself a long shot from the start of year, but that doesn’t stop you thinking about it.”
|
Quote:
“I wouldn’t want to be in (Yzerman’s) spot, picking that team,” laughed Giordano. “Because there’s so many options, and a lot of tough decisions. At the end of the day it’s all about winning if your Canadian and anything short of that isn’t going to be good enough.
“So I don’t envy those guys.
“I won’t be there, but I’ll be cheering them on. They did a great job last time and hopefully it works out for them again.”

He was deservingly a lock. He might not have all the skill in the world but there isn't a player in the world I'd want taking an important face off protecting a lead with the game winding down.

Pretty happy with the squad.
Only thing I would do is:
Giroux > Marleau
Giordano/Seabrook > Hamhuis
Other than that it's solid. You could argue putting E. Staal on the team instead of Kunitz as well and roll the line-up like this
Giroux-Crosby-Stamkos
Duchene-Getzlaf-Perry
Sharp-Toews-Tavares
Benn-Bergeron-Nash
13th: E.Staal
Carter (bench)
Doughty-Keith
Bouw-Petro
Weber-Vlasic
7th: Subban
Gio/Seabrook (bench)
Luongo
Price
Smith (bench)

Can't believe Justin "Five Giordano's" Schultz didn't receive any consideration. It's almost like he's one of the worst defensemen in the league or something.

The issue is that he's not been very good at the role this season. If I had to pick, I'd take Garrison over Hamhuis since Garrison has been better defensively and has a helluva shot.

No, he really wont. Or at least he shouldn't be.
Crosby, Toews, Tavares, Getzlaf. Where do you expect the more offensive players to play? Stamkos could play center also.

last few months he's been excellent, and has been widely praised on improving after a shaky start

Not too many complaints. I don't like Nash being there. I think Giroux would be the better option. I want to hate the Bouwmeester pick, but I can't see a better alternative.

Bergeron will play where ever needed...but will most certainly be on the ice in the defensive end starts as much if not more than any of those guys in a close game.
he may just be put on the wing with Tavares full time as well....nevermind kill penalties.
He will see a TON of ice.
I think this is why this teamis so different fom what most thought.
It is constructed like a real team...not an allstar team.
Lots of guys will have very different roles than they see on their NHL clubs, and thats reflected in the selections.
