Spent the weekend with my son in Kamloops. He was playing in the Elite division of the biggest rugby 7/s Tournament in Western Canada.

His team got Silver after a hard fought final.

He had a great weekend and I connect with some old buddies I hadn't seen in a while.

Next weekend, my 8 yo son and I are going to watch the original Ghostbusters movie.

I'm now realizing that I don't think I've ever heard him swear. My wife and I don't swear a lot, if at all around the kids, so it's quite possible he doesn't know anything beyond 'sucks'.

When the "dickless" joke happens, he's either going to laugh his ass off, or I am & then will have to explain it to him. Either way, CP, I can't wait.

My 6-year old daughter just lost her first tooth, and a very generous tooth fairy put $5 under her pillow last night. This morning, without any prompting she took the $5 with her to school and gave it to her teacher to donate to the Terry Fox program. When I asked her about it when I picked her up, she said "I want to help kids who get cancer, because it's not fair that they're sick"

Most of the time I feel like I'm winging it through parenthood, but sometimes they make me think I must be doing something right

Oh I'd wager he knows precisely what "this man has no dick" means...

Have fun explaining the line "I want you inside me" to him, though.

Oh, and the spectral BJ.

Dipped my feet in the Arctic Ocean this afternoon, -1C and windy outside.

The drive between Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk (and back) is beautiful too.

A month or so ago the water was warm(ish) enough for a 30 minute swim. I remember thinking that compared to a lot of mountain lakes, it was downright pleasant.

I was fully ready to swim in summer when I was up here, but didn't actually get all the way to Tuktoyaktuk.

Can't be colder than Barrier Lake, which we swam in a couple of years ago, when it was about +34 on Canada Day.

The weather has made for a lovely, cosy day at home and induced some domesticity, lol. I've got some tomatoes, onion and 3 heads of garlic roasting, for the base of a homemade soup - what else will be going in, I'm not entirely sure yet, but in the meantime, my house smells divine. Puttering about kind of days like this, with a few simple pleasures, makes me happy.

I visited Calgary last weekend for the first time in 5 years or so. Man, what a change. I love my old hometown so much. Seeing how well it's doing made me very happy.

hmmmmmm long slow-cooked home made soup... hard to beat. Throw in some "tired" stuff from the freezer (leftovers, mystery meats, etc...) and you're set.

Watching my kids play sports RMMH. I particularly like team sports.

Also, another hockey season starts on the weekend (league games). I super exited for this and happy to be back coaching.

Hopefully we can have a good, positive season and help turn the young people into champions again. Overall, just hoping for a good experience for the kids, but winning is also fun…

Kudos that you are stepping up and coaching, volunteers make youth sports go around. Hope you have a great season.

Our boys have both aged out of sports and while I don't miss all the driving, I really miss watching them.

Usually I make stew when doing the miscellaneous dump from the fridge/freezer. Start with some mirepoix base and then throw random stuff in and adjust with spices.

But I made a nice chicken soup last night with the perfect set of miscellaneous things I had on hand. Made me and my family happy to have a nice hot batch of chicken/veggie soup due to the cold/flu/cough/itchy throat etc. we've been dealing with for 2-3 weeks now. It really hit the spot.

Dried onion flakes, parsley flakes, salt and chicken is the perfect basis for chicken soup. Then all sorts of other fresh and frozen veggies, canned/dried beans, noodles etc. work great to make it even more filling.

My son's student loan finally arrived in his bank account today, that RRMMH. Bank of mom and dad was taking a hit paying his expenses for the past six weeks as he got going in his program. But what a drawn out process, received notification September 7 that Alberta Student aid has received his documents, the money came today.

I'm excited to coach my son in his first U11 (atom) hockey game tonight.

Might not seem like a big deal, but its his first game on full ice with full hockey rules. (U7 and U9 play half ice with modified gameplay).

I think I'll be hearing a lot of coaches and parents yelling "OFFSIDE". LOL
