Poor kid. Up big, lets Halep back in and missed some easy shots along the way. Too bad. Gotta put her away when you're up that big.

Looked pretty bad when she rolled it but looks like she'll be ok.

Destanee needs some polish to her game. She has potential.
Halep looks like she'll pull it out but she won't be 100% for Genie.

The kid definitely has potential. Lots of power. But the unforced errors killed her, missed some easy shots and also her body language looked bad for the most part. She was way ahead in the 1st and looked ticked off. She also looked gassed early on.
But she's only 17. Lots of time for her to figure those things out and to have a really bright future.

I caught a bit of Milos' press conference. He said he was affected physically, but not due to injury. Rather it was his fitness and that he will re-asses that soon.
I actually appreciated how frank he was.

Peter Polansky put up a really good fight against rising star Karen Khachanov but ultimately falls short 7-6, 7-6, 6-4.

Roger gets by Aljaz Bedene 6-3, 6-4, 6-3. Scoreline seemed comprehensive but Bedene made Roger work for this victory.

And Delpo moves through to the 2nd round dispatching Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 6-4, 6-3.
Delpo will face Khachanov in round 2. That should be a good one.

Now if I told you Mladenovic could actually end up in the top 10 after this tournament, would you guess this is how her last 15 matches went? Rankings system needs some tweeks, obviously.

The encouraging thing is that he didn't appear to have any injuries and was actually able to hit a few impressive shots in between many lackluster shots and obvious physical fitness issues.
Bottom line is that he's got to be sure he's healthy and fit for Indian Wells and Miami this year no matter what. If I were him, I would get entry into the next three or four indoor events asap in order to get as much match time as possible to keep working on that fitness level that is nowhere near tour level.

She lost in the first round last night. 47 unforced errors!. Currently she has jumped to #9 in the live rankings as others need to defend their AO points to catch up.
She hasn't taken advantage of her high ranking the last few months. Hasn't won a match since July. This time last year after crashing out of the 1st round of the Aussie Open she was 51 so in the next 5 months she's got a boatload of points to defend.
St. Petersburg WON Jan 30 470 points
Indian Wells SF Mar 8 390
Stuttgart F Apr 30 305
Madrid May 6 F 6 650
Roland Garros May 28 QF 430
That's all it takes to be top 20 in women's tennis.
