So I'm considering giving telus a call today.
I'm half way through my two year contract with a ty phone. Looking to upgrade to an iPhone 4 16GB.
Hoping I can do an early renewal and hop onto their student 55 plan. If the first person I'm in contact with says he/she cannot do anything for me should I say I'm considering buying out the contract and looking at a deal with another provider?
It all seems a little redundant if the operator could just connect you with the loyalty and retentions department. I'd be more than happy to play the game though.

There are direct lines out there...I don`t know telus`s though.
In terms of what to say? With the initial rep you can start by asking how you would go about porting your # to Rogers (or WIND if you are in an applicable zone). They will ask why, then you scpheel about your bill vs what the others are "offering" you.
Rejoice.
Edit: I've heard Telus is pretty bad with Early HUP's but I dont have any personal experience to add to that

Found a direct Telus line to Loyalties & Retentions department #. For those interested, 1-877-279-3100.
Going to see what they have to say.

Had a chat and they were very helpful.
Politely explained to them I had a year left on my contract and was hoping to have an early renewal onto a 3 year smart phone plan. Instead of having to buy it out, they average out the original price of my current phone over the 2 year contract and I pay however many months left of its worth. (13 months left nets me 65$ to cancel the plan).
So I basically just have to call them whenever I switch over, get that charge applied to the account and sign whichever new contract I wish. Very helpful and friendly.

Anyone try this with Telus T.V? I'm going to try this tomorrow and see if they will add some channels for free.

I didn't want to pay the $35 activation fee for my new phone, so I called up and told Will that I was under the assumption that the fee was to be waived as part of my previous negotiations. He looked at the file and said "yeah, it's on the file, I guess we have to honour that."
That's right, you prick. Show me the money, er charge reversal.
+$35.
So far approx. $3200/yr saved by the people that posted the informations.

I just got pretty much the same one as you for my sister but with 200 minutes and my10 citywide instead of my5 nationwide for $48. But then again hers was coming off a student plan and they added data and gave us a 8 dollar credit or something like that.

with fido and you renegotiate, does that mean that is the plan for the remainder of the contract? or is there a new contract length applied to when you renegotiate?

Need to put in my thanks for this thread as well...I had planned on dickering a bit when I contracted up to get an iPhone, but huge props to noel for the direct line for Telus retentions. Got earlier evening and weekends (6 instead of 9 PM), free caller ID and free text plan...probably $20 a month for me...

Best thread ever. Just had my girlfriend call and she got her rogers bill reduced by $34 a month from over $90 down to $60.
Not sure of exact details but she has an iPhone with:
Data (not sure how much)
free incoming
free weekends/evenings after 6
200 weekday minutes
My5
Then she called Shaw and wants to send props to "Deuce Bigalows" deal as she used it to get what we wanted. We used to pay $112 and now pay $88.
We have:
Phone, unlimited long distance in NA
Extreme Internet
HD plus, tiers 1,2,3, and timeshift
So we saved almost $20 a month and we got phone, extreme internet over normal and the time shift channels.
Oh, then they also threw in a free HDPVR.
Total savings: Around $720 a year plus a free HDPVR.
THANKS CALGARYPUCK!
Guess I have to do my cell phone next!

OK, I've used $30/month savings for woooohoooo, and the new total is around $4520 total yearly savings, not counting freebies.
Remember, our (de)Funding drive* needs to achieve 10 Large for to make great success.
The lines are still open people. Think of the children. Children who will eventually have to pay their own cell bills one day. The power is in our hands to lower prices for everybody, including the children. Call your CSR/Retentions Dept. today!

Bell is offering me this plan:
200 daytime minutes
free evenings/weekends after 6pm
unlimited text
call display/voicemail/call forwarding
500mb data
no system access fee
for $45/mo (+tax).
I've found Bell incredibly hard to negotiate with, but is this a good deal?

Sounds like a pretty average retentions deal, not great or anything.
I pretty much was offered (finally) the exact same thing @ fido, but with 6gb of data for $52.
I know better can be had, but it takes a lot of trying to hit the right CSR

I have pretty much the same plan with Bell; only 300 daytime minutes (250 + 50 bonus) and free Bell to Bell calling. Technically what I have is an "employee purchase" plan, but I don't work for the company that is named in the plan.
I tried to get Telus to match or beat it when I switched over from them; the would only offer me 200 minutes and $50. I ended up switching because of the better price and the better coverage in Manitoba.

Nice plan. You should try to get early evenings/weekends @6pm or even 5pm. It makes a big difference. How'd you get 200mins long distance? I thought they only over 100mins or 1000mins?
I'm gonna see if I can try to swing something similar to this for my dad. He uses a lot of minutes cause of work.

Called into rogers today, looking to get a new 3 year contract for the wife and I:
this is what they offered for each phone
250 Anytime minutes
Unlimited Evening Weekend 6PM
Unlimited Incoming
100 Canada Wide LD
Unlimited Messaging (sms)
6GB Data
Unlimited Network Calling
Caller ID+Name Display
Voicemail
$47 + gst for each phone, currently paying ~40 each phone.
And the hardware upgrade to an I-phone would be rogers standard rates (iphone 4 16gb for 159)
not as good as silentsim, but...
thoughts?
