This makes zero sense...the FLAMES gave up the fewest HD chances in the league tonight

Gave up...what does a Lucic chance have to do with it...also, 5-2

I hope this year they actually call the playoffs like the playoffs. I barely watched last year because the refs made it feel like regular season games

Oh, no, it's perfectly logical. You see, the Flames actually didn't give up the fewest high-danger chances, because Lucic can't score. When Lucic shoots the puck, it should be counted as a high-danger chance for the opposing team, because reasons.

Okay...they got the win and they got it relatively convincingly.

The parade isnt 'back on' or anything, but its a positive to build on.

Oh I see. So if the Flames go from having 0 of them on their roster to 1 of them on their roster, they're suddenly a team of midgets who can't play a physical game.

..and? Is the goal of pro sports to injure the opponent, or to beat the opponent?

"No human can withstand that many hits,” Ryan Kesler once said during the 2015 Ducks / Blackhawks series

(the Ducks proceeded to lose to the lightest and smallest team in the NHL, who proceeded to win the Stanley Cup)

Strawman argument, no one is asking for a team made up of a bunch of skilled 5'7" players. No one is even asking for a line of sub 6'0" players. It is entirely possible to construct four lines where two players are above average size and the third player complements their skillsets. That is literally how last year's top line succeeded. MIXED skillsets aggregating strengths and offsetting weaknesses. That is how the 2019 fourth line ended up being the best fourth line we've had in the my lifetime as a Flames fan, despite Ryan and Mangiapane both being "undersized", they worked well alongside Hathaway. They had a role and they overwhelmingly crushed it.

Quit with the strawman arguments implying people just want a bunch of soft players button-hooking around the perimeter and giving up on plays when they see some neanderthal coming at them from a hundred feet away.

Lol, my apologies for the snark. Let's just enjoy the win.

I still think you need more than just banging and crashing to be a good NHL player. But we don't need to litigate that tonight.

Calgary was the better team
But they do. Despite the team struggles they've outplayed a lot of teams like they did tonight, yet have been losing. Why? Cause Markstrom sucks the life out of the team with his habitual weak/soft goal a game. Vladar, although not perfect, doesn't do that. The Flames do need goaltending like tonight to win, positionally sound, in control and calm, Vladar is doing just that.

He was suggesting they need the goalie to steal the game or they lose...which couldn't be further from the truth

Vladar was great but it wasn't a tough night...he did his job

Well, goalie is still part of the team. It's way better than them need the refs to steal the game or they lose!

It's hyperbole to express a point. There is a value to having guys like Lucic on the team.
And I think Lucic had a good game tonight.

Guys "like" Lucic as in big and physical, an intimidating presence who can hit and fight. Yes. But they also have to not be lacking speed/skill to the point of being a liability to the team.

In the case of Lucic himself, I'd argue the bad outweighs the good at this point.

He definitely was good and contributed tonight though
