I disagree here,

You know that at training camp the player was better
You also don't know if 10 games of NHL experience will allow him to gain enough to surpass the injured player
And you don't know if your player evaluation was correct.

Generally I would agree with the statement but your players coming up and not relinquishing their spot does happen.

"Can afford" does not mean "has no negative effect".

We can likely afford injuries better than previous seasons because we're likely to make the postseason even if we're not at our very best.

Having good depth also means you can afford to give guys a day of extra rest here and there when they get banged up, thus increasing the chances of having them at their best when the postseason arrives.

You obviously want to have the best possible team in the postseason.

Is this the first year in recent memory where we can actually afford a few injuries?

How dare you!!

I dunno, if Frolik goes down for any length of time, we're rolling up to the party with Ferland, Versteeg, Brouwer, and Lazar for RW depth. WOOF

God help us if such an injury coincides with Versteeg's annual 15-20 games missed.

This is the best depth we've had in the last 20 years so yes I'd say the Flames are better equipped to handle injuries than they have been in a long long time.

Is anyone listening to SN960 right now?

Rob Kerr just said that it is never a bad thing for a team to have a dearth at a given position. I am surprised how many people there are who have no idea what this word means and believe it to be the opposite of what it actually is.
