Good for him. Seems like a good guy and the Sharks gig would be a good one for a rookie GM I think. He'll get to rebuild from the bottom up, which I think is a more preferable situation that being brought in to fine tune.

Hasn't Weekes been looking for a GM spot for a while now? It would be nice to see the first non-white GM in the NHL unless there have been many before.

Btw - I do think he is a viable candidate. Has played the game and put in a ton of time learning about the league.

I don't think he's qualified based on playing the game. I also don't think a lot of others are fully qualified for arguably the most important position in sports. What's his experience with negotiating? What's his experience with scouting? What's his experience with business? What's his experience with dealing with difficult agents? What's his experience with analytics? I ask this from anyone and if there is a severe deficiency in any of them I don't think they're qualified. Seems like a really nice guy though.

I like Weeks and would be happy for him to get a gig but the Sharks are not an ideal team for a GM to cut his teeth. There isn’t a lot that can be done to bring them out of mediocrity for at least a half decade as their situation is even worse than the Hawks.

I don't think you need experience in all areas but has he done anything other than be a broadcaster since playing? Would be a strange hire if not.

You're probably right, but you want someone with experience in many of those. When the guy doesn't have professional experience in any of those at any level, it certainly makes you wonder where the rumor came from? What owner would make that mistake by hanging your hat on almost no experience? Hard to believe there is even an ounce of smoke here.

A rumor monger etc.

More power to him if he gets the job though, yet what is his experience?

He was a goalie and now makes trade rumors. Has he ever ran a team as a GM? As an assitant? I ask because I do not know.

That being said we all love Darryl Sutter here, and he sucked as a GM.

Awesome coach, terrible GM.


If he is hired I look forward to seeing what he does.
