Flames take underdog approach - let the mind games begin
Throw the Pacific Division win out the window. Sutter has his boys talking like playoff underdogs.
Another glimpse into the winning mindset. Tkachuk and Coleman both talking about the Stars being proven playoff performers and the Flames still having much to prove.
I think this kind of a mindset is necessary for our group. In contrast, the '18/19 season has us thinking we would walk all over the Avs with little effort. The boys got cocky and complacent, and paid for it in 5 games. This year's group understands they have accomplished next to nothing in terms of playoff success. You have to work just as hard, if not take it up a notch, from here on out, if you want to make it deep. Regular season stats mean nothing, all we have determined is seeding for the playoffs. I love it, and I am glad Sutter is setting those expectations. Go Flames go!
Sutter of all people knows well how far a low ranked seed can go, but I'm certainly not doubting the Flames in this series. They have lots to prove and to vindicate themselves for, and I think they will.

On a serious note, in most probable matchups they probably are the underdog.
VS Dallas - they already lost to this team a couple years prior, while being outplayed systemically. They have to approach it with the mindset that they can't repeat that outcome.
VS Edmonton - Flames had a better season, but Edmonton has played very well since the coaching change. They're better than their record, at least.
VS Colorado - I mean, we ARE the underdog here. Colorado is probably the scariest team in the leaguem
VS Tampa or Florida I think we'd be considered the underdogs either way. If we face Toronto or Carolina t should be a remarkably even matchup tbh. I like our odds in most other matchups though. Definitely some good teams out east though.
The only opponents (healthy) that I think it'd be tough not to be the underdog would be L.A. and NYR. I'd like our chances in those series.

Please show me some team stats that show the Oilers are better than the Flames, since the coaching change.

I’ve never been a big fan of the we’re underdogs mentality, I like this quote from John Wooden
“I say it's easier to stay there because the things you learn along the way and because of the better talent that will come to you just because of the fact you are winning. I believe that. Just as I believe, and maybe contrary to other's belief, who say I would rather be the underdog. I don't want to be the underdog. Would you rather fight somebody that's whipped you twice or someone that you'd whipped twice? There's no question in my mind. I'll take the one that I've whipped twice. I don't want to take another beating.”
We are better than Dallas. We have better players, a better coach, and a record that reflects that. Now make sure you are properly prepared to take advantage of that superiority.
Of course I’ve never won a pickup game of hockey and Sutter has 3 Stanley Cups so underdogs it is.

There is no world in which the Flames are the underdog vs Dallas. And vs the Oilers that’d be a significant stretch. Others are 100% legit
