Dismantling the Catholic school board entirely and shifting everything to the CBE would be even better

Yeah, how far apart are the two sides? In what ways has the government offer fallen short of what they want and what other teachers get?

I'm with you 100% Snuffleupagus, and after we're done with the Catholics, we can move on to the Jews. Love it.

In retrospect, maybe I was a bit too hasty. Let's just rid ourselves of the Catholics first and then we'll see how things go from there.

Don't be a tit. He's talking about doing away with the religious institution; not the human beings. Are you unaware of some of the terrible things the Catholic Church has done under the authority of a made-up book and undeserved/unchecked power?

The article is pretty vague on where both sides are at but if the board was offering the same or better rates than the other teachers are getting I think that it’s safe to assume they would have mentioned that in their statements to the press.

I thought we were talking about the persecution of the people themselves, not just the eradication of their institutions.

It's either get rid of the Catholic school board, or start publicly funded Muslim, Hindu, Protestant and Mormon school boards and continue to raise our children in segregated environments where they are indoctrinated into a religion by their educators, and grow up with limited empathy toward others as they grow up without encountering people outside of their religious group.

I went to catholic schools in Calgary and I’ve made pretty clear my views on Catholicism and how it systematically indoctrinates children. Limited empathy for others however, isn’t a feature I recognised within my time in that school system. If anything, learning and living in a way that was empathetic to others was a very strong feature of my time there. I had some incredible teachers in that system.
When I was in Calgary this year, I met up with a retired teacher - not mine but a mutual friend with others and it was just amazing listening to his stories and how his pupils remained in contact with him - one of the stories was mind blowing.
I agree there shouldn’t be duplication of administration/overheads and segregation, but I do think I was a student within the better school system - minus the indoctrination of course.

Yeah, my kids are in cbe because we didn't want the catholicism part, especially in elementary. But I've had multiple relatives who either attended both cbe and cssd, or taught in both cbe and cssd. And 100% of them (all but 1 are not catholic) say cssd is way better run. The atmosphere of the schools are better, the administration is way better, etc. I'm good to cut 1 set of overhead and consolidate, but if you do that you should cut cbe.

Pay teachers properly already. I 100% support adequate compensation for them.
However, Is it wrong for me to in turn ask for less random days off my kids have? It’s insane how many days off my kids have throughout the year for no particular reason.

Honestly 95$k for 10 months of work for 10 years experience isn’t properly?
Not trying to start a pay debate , but pay doesn’t seem out of whack
Now other factors - having to buy materials , class size , etc but seriously the job pays $10k a month (when they are working)
