Default 2023 Men's Rugby World Cup Thread

I might post only with myself in this thread but that's cool

First game is New Zealand vs France, Fri Sept 8/23, 13:15 MST.

The pools are ####ed up cuz the draw was done way too soon.

I'll check in from time to time!

Its nice that the games are going to be on European time so I can throw them on after lunch.

I love watching the games in NZ and Australia but I'm getting too goddamned old to stay up that late.

European time games are a big plus. I’m not a huge rugby guy but I’ll for sure try and catch parts during the afternoons

Okay, so heres the thing....and I've mentioned it before, I dont have a dog in the fight, so what I propose is this:

If you've got a nation to cheer for, then go for it, but also add an underdog!

So I'm going to be cheering for South Africa....I have no ties to SA, I just like how they play and picking NZ seemed cheap.

Aaaand.....Romania! I also have no ties to Romania, dont know a single player, but WTF, lets have some fun!

I'm all aboard the Ireland train, due to Heritage. For an underdog, I'll think about it.

Team Romania has room on the Bus! And Vampires, but dont worry about them, they're friendly and mostly harmless.

Anyone following the warm up matches? The France Scotland games were exceptional. Also nice to see England get destroyed by Ireland the other day.

Those groups are ridiculously stupid. Here are my thoughts.

Group A: NZ and France are the two cup favorites and should both move on.

Group B: The group of death with 3 of the top 5 ranked teams. Pretty stupid one of Ireland, SA, and Scotland won't make the quarters. No clue who to pick here but history tells me the Irish will find a way to blow this.

Group C: Australia, Wales, and Fiji are all closely matched. Wouldn't be surprised to see these teams split their games with the quarters spots decided on point differential.

Group D: Should be England and Argentina getting through but some chances of upsets from Japan or Samoa.

Don't sleep on Georgia, they have been beating the hell out of the 2nd tier on Europe for a while and in the Autumn Series in Nov '22 they beat Wales and lost to Samoa by 1 point.

I'd really like to see a strong showing from them.

Pick - Gotta be the Frenchies. They, above any country, deserve a World Cup win. They have brought so much goodness to the sport and have come so close.

Underdog - Is Argentina still considered an outsider? If not then Samoa, you can't not like the physicality they bring to the game. Size and speed.

haha, I debated Argentina as an underdog, but hey seemed a little too close to "mainstream" to be considered an under dog. I'm going with Namibia for the underdogs, entirely because I used to play with a guy who played on the national team.

TSN has the rights, I think and they're showing all 48 matches.
