More people on the mountain means more people buying lunch, beer, equipment and lessons. This should more than make up the revenue from passes.

I want to do some Cat Skiing at Castle this year. How much did yours end up costing?

Castle is a great option. Especially if it's your first CAT trip.

It was just under $500 and you get a full-day (about 8-12 runs) depending on your group, and the weather.

I was really lucky and did a heli-day last year in Whistler which was amazing and definitely a bucket-list item. Highly recommended.
Plus being able to yell "GET TO THE CHOPPAAAAAA!!" in an Arnold voice never gets old..

Only $500?
Do you have a link? Also do you need any back country training?

Best deal is Great Northern Powder Guides out of whitefish. Prices range from $350-$365 depending on time of year.

I linked the website above.

As far as training, you don't need anything.
It's my first time going CAT but if it's anything like Heli, they teach you how to use the avalanche beacon, probes, shovels, etc and you go through the orientation with the guide before you head up.

Shameless work plug...

If anyone needs any tune ups Sports Rent (my work) is once again doing our October ski tune specials. $25 for a complete ski tune and $30 for snowboard tunes. The special will last until October 31st. Ended up getting just under 250 skis in last year so hopefully once again we can grow that number and push 300 this year.

If you have any questions send me a PM or ask on here, I'm always lurking around here somewhere.

End shameless plug.

Bring it in and we'll take a look. Pretty good chance we can fix it but without actually seeing couldn't tell you for sure. Being a rental shop we've done a fair number of repairs on our own skis as well as customer skis, not too much we can't actually repair.

Ski swap is a fantastic place to get skis but you need to do a little research first to figure out what you're looking for. I always recommend looking online and reading description and reviews of skis. If you can narrow things down to about 5ish models of skis that suit your needs and the prices online you will have a better chance of getting a good deal on a ski that will be ideal for you.

The main issue with the ski swap sale is the lack of help you will receive, everyone there helping out is volunteer based and simply don't have the training or retail knowledge to assist properly.

As long as you prep yourself with even 30min of research to figure out some ski models and length, if you're not too sure of length general rule is just under nose height, then you will be just fine.

^^ would the same apply for kids' skis? Do those sales at Max-Bell generally have much selection of kids equipment?

Saw Sunshine cards advertised last night at Safeway.

The entire family picked up Nakiska passes for this year on that deal. I'm realistic to know we won't use it a whole lot, but for the cost of a single weekend for my wife and I to go to Sunshine, we can cart the kids up to Nakiska all season and give it a whirl. Even if they hate it and aren't feeling it this year, I'd rather find that out on a cheap hill.

Sounds like a good deal. I'll dig my board out of the basement this weekend and drop it off for a tune.
