Default stuff to do in calgary and area

a friend of mine is visiting me from out of town and we are looking for ideas on stuff to do in calgary and area over the next few days - all we have so far is maybe visiting the military museum and maybe going to banff to take the gondola up the mountain - any feedback or ideas on stuff to do would be greatly appreciated - thanks

You might want to ask to get this moved to the main OT forum.

Head Smashed in is interested (for some people), about 45/60 mins south of the city.

There is sports museum COP.

Tyrell Museum in Drumheller is well worth the drive.

You can easily spend a day in Banff. Gondola, hot springs, shopping, dining, etc.

In the city, I think that the Tower would be fun for a first-timer. As mentioned, Canada Olympic Park has both an Olympic museum, plus the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame which opened within the past few years. I haven't been, but I would like to at some point.

How old is your friend and what sort of stuff do you think they'd like?

Totally depends on what you and your friend like.

Calgary is not a New York for sure, but you could easily fill weeks here and the surrounding area. You looking for touristy stuff, or diamond in the rough stuff?

Just noticed by the post date, you've probably taken the friend out already!

yeah, my buddy just left - we went to the glenbow museum, gasoline alley in the heritage park, the military museum, spent a day at banff and lake louise, and hit all kinds of restaurants and pubs in calgary and area - i think i liked the military museum best - we were going to go the telus science centre but we ran out of time - it was really cloudy / foggy when we were in banff so we didnt go up the gondola

Sounds like you made the most of it! I work very close to the military museums, yet I have never actually been inside. I need to fix that soon as I have heard nothing but good things.
