Default Change Day Alberta - April 4/16

WHAT'S CHANGE DAY AB?
One act, small or big, can lead to improvement in our health or the healthcare system. Anyone is invited to make a pledge (it's free!) and become a Change Day Hero. On April 4, 2016 we’ll unite to celebrate our pledges. Let’s see what Alberta can do!

Change around the world.
Change Day is not just happening in Alberta. It is a global movement that’s been taken up around the world.
It started in the UK where it was a huge success.
In Canada, BC has held one and had 7877 pledges (Can AB beat that?)

ChangeDayAB Stats
As of Dec 28/15, we have
- 465 pledges
- 97 days left to pledge

^tried to summarize this concisely; feel free to ask any questions about it.

The premise is basic:
- make a pledge to improve your health (if you're involved in healthcare, can pledge to improve the care you/colleagues provide).
A lot of small changes add up to a big change.

A pledge can be as simple as the following:
- getting in 10,000 steps a day
- exercising 5 times a week, 30 minutes per session
- complete some sporting event (run, walk, hike, bike race, etc.)
- yoga/spin class/running/XC skiing/fat biking etc. 3X per week
(or some variation there of)

Other examples of pledges for your health:

Can we pledge to reduce health care spending by cutting salaries and some top management positions that do not add value to our healthcare system and hire more nurses?

Can we pledge to reduce education spending by cutting salaries and some top administration positions that do not add value to our education system?

I'll not buy that one box of Sugar Crisp I get every year when I'm like "Yeah! I like that!" and then remember it's a sugary mess that turns soggy in a second and makes me sick.

Actually, on thinking of it, I'm kind of craving it and may get a box of it today.

...but a smaller box?

I see where you guys are going, but that's not really the idea in this "social movement".

Maybe this helps clarify:

From the website:

Finding your super power.

Quote:
So many of us have ideas, so many of us want change, but something holds us back.

Fear. Permission. Failure – Whatever it may be, we are asking you to take a chance, show us what you got, and change your world.

Change Day is centered around the idea that one act can lead to improvement in care for patients, clients, residents, families, and the system. Anyone is invited to make a pledge.

  1. I pledge to fight for making Facebook and Instagram likes tax deductible.
  2. I pledge to come up with more ideas for personal improvement pledges that I want to make public and earn likes.
  3. I pledge to show more of my photos in the mirror wearing a muscle shirt.

P.S. Joking aside, 2 hours of mandatory PhysEd every day from Kindergarten to Grade 12 would make a lot of our national obesity problems go away.

I guess one way of looking at a pledge is that it's akin to making a New Year's Resolution.

Ugh. 2 days later Change Day AB pledge count at 473.
Guess BC will demolish our total. (Recall they had almost 8000).
C'mon CPers - jump aboard and submit some. Easy to do.

Again, examples of pledges for your health:

Hah - I DO hear ya. Any other time I'd probably go right along with ya and keep my activities to my self. But BC (and other countries) set the bar and if those that are active in AB post their plans for activities, my hope is that would inspire those in contemplation. Maybe I'm naive to think that these small changes could ass up to a big impact on the health of our province.

Saskatchewan also had a Change Day that took place in November. They had almost 1500 pledges.

Need some inspiration.
How about getting out in Nature more.
If you haven't seen, clever drug commercial spoof:

*Don't think the Youtube embed working - here's the link - worth the watch:

Haven't been beating this to death.
Would love to see some CPers help out the cause though.

Up to over 1000 pledges now (free to do). 40 days left.

(Recall BC had almost 8000)
I want call for a CP Jihad, but would love it if it were to happen...
