New Kanye is out and it's been painful so far. The mixing is abysmal and the lyrics typical post-MBDTF cringe.
I'm a huge Kanye fan having traveled twice to see him live and eagerly anticipate his releases. I even talked myself into liking Ye and Kids See Ghosts at first, but this album is awful.
The lyrics are offensively simple. The production is stuck in 2005, overall a massive failure.
Jesus Is King is literally the most "meh" Kanye album. At least with Yeezus it was interesting with how he was being experimental with different sounds even if it didn't entirely work. The same goes with 808's (Although 808's grew on me and a lot of people over time). This album just got a big "meh" out of me when I finished listening to it. All of his albums have highlights I can revisit except this one. Follow God came kinda close but it's too short and Kanye doesn't do anything interesting with that beat.
While I haven't listened to it, I read one review where it says he's going on about Trump again. Isn't that so cliche nowadays? On his last album where he was doing the same thing I was getting really annoyed. Yeah, we get it, Trump is dumb. It's just so popular to do the Trump ragging that you don't think an original artist like Eminem would bother being so cliche.
I mean, I wouldn't call making fun of Trump cliche in rap so much as it is unnecessary, since El-P already dropped a stunner in, what, 2016? On DJ Shadow's "Nobody Speak".

Hard to make someone who isn’t a fan watch this without giving it away, but this video is a great use of his platform. (It isn’t about Trump)

I couldn't make it through the Eminem album. I honestly think Em is just lost at this stage of his career. He doesn't really have too much new to say anymore. Circles however was really solid. I know some people take issue with posthumous albums but Mac's camp did a great job putting it together.

I actually found the Sean Price/Lil Fame album to be a little underwhelming production-wise. The beats were decent but not great. SP was still killing it with the bars though.
I really liked the Smoke DZA/Benny The Butcher/Pete Rock EP that came out a couple months ago.
After listening to the Eminem album, I do agree it's his worst but frankly, I'm happy he released 20 songs. How many artists do that? I'm sure it'll satisfy his hardcore fans, though about 50% aren't very good. Not a fan of his "singing". I liked the following, though there are no surefire hits on this one. He needs to work with Dr Dre as they need each other.
