Assuming they will be back up after the break. They have both played well.

One nice thing about the Wranglers being in calagry is you can make transactions like this and not totally ####s guy over into packing all his #### and going to Bakersfield for a couple of weeks.

Stockton was a head scratcher. Well come to think of it, so was Abbotsford.

Stockton happened because a bunch of people wanted a cluster of AHL teams in California to cut down travel costs. Understandable, but whoever came up with the idea seems to have looked at the map and never glanced at the territory.

Abbotsford was the real head-scratcher. No sense in that from any angle. But I think at that point, the Flames had had so many farm teams go bust, they couldn't afford to be choosy. (Remember the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights? No? Neither does anyone else.)

Abbotsford was the first attempt to push the AHL west with the hope that other teams would move west shortly after.

Also helped that the city of Abbotsford was subsidizing a lot of the costs for visiting AHL teams to travel there.

Pretty sure some how it is Huska's fault...Or is it the owner?

Why wouldn't they get the Canucks to go there? or were they locked into another location?

I mean would anyone pay to watch the home Canucks or Oilers farm team in Airdrie?

Should’ve gone harder.

IIRC at the time the Canucks didn't own an AHL team. They affiliated with an independently owned AHL team and didn't want to spend the money to own one.

The only thing about the Wranglers in Calgary (and the same arena) is that it takes from a chance to give a close by city a good team to follow. Airdrie has only a Junior B team. Okotoks has a Junior A (that's in the BCHL). Cochrane I think has a C?

Just looked. It appears that the Airdrie Thunder play in an arena that only seats 460, and the Okotoks Oilers' barn seats 1500 (plus standing room for 500). Either town would have to build a much larger arena on purpose for an AHL club.

They need to go on a run, currently sitting outside a playoff spot.

Well, yeah, that's a given. But those communities could probably use a better venue for stuff.

Sure, but who's going to pay for it?

Red Deer feels like an obvious place for an AHL team.
Wranglers there would have been good to push Flames fans further north
