Default Hooking up laptop to TV

Hey guys, didn’t really know where to post this, but then I saw the new Tech forum and figured it would be perfect. This is probably gonna sound like a stupid question, but how exactly do I hook up my laptop to my LCD TV so that I can watch my media files on the TV with sound? I have tons of movies/anime on my laptop, and while I don’t mind watching it on a small 15’ screen, I figure it would be much more comfortable to be able to relax on my couch watching those same files on a 32’. Alright, that, and I’ve always wanted to watch porn on something besides my computer.

I did a bit of searching, and wasn’t really too sure, but most of them mentioned using a S-Video cable to hook up the laptop to the TV, but that it was supposedly less quality or something. I’m not really too familiar with this type of stuff, my laptop is a fairly recent one, Dell Inspiron 1520 http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3821 (just included a link to a review, incase I was mistaken about the input/ouputs. The one big thing it is lacking is a HDMI or DVI slot, so I think my only 2 options are S-Video or VGA? My TV is a regular run of the mill budget 32’ LCD (LTV-32w6 HD), from Westinghouse, and it has a HDMI slot and VGA/S-video slots. http://www.westinghousedigital.com/p...ck_Connect.pdf Would S-Video be the way to go, or should I grab a VGA cable? Do I also need separate cables for actual audio, so I can hear the movies, or does the 1 cable take care of all that stuff? I’d ideally like something really simple, dunno if its complicated or not to set up.

Sorry if this doesn’t really make much sense, but I’m sorta just throwing out words. And finally, would these just be standard cables I could buy at a place like Wal-mart or some random run of the mill electronics store, or more of a specialized thing I would need to order.

Thanks in advance for the help guys, much appreciated.

Get a VGA cable, that will be the best viewing experience. For Audio you'll need a 1/8 (mini Plug) to RCA Stereo cable, both are cheap to buy.

Sorry to bump this thread, but just wanna give a quick heads up and say thanks, it worked great. Picked up the VGA cable and the audio cables today, and they worked perfectly. Videos and games look fantastic, surpisingly so does regular internet surfing and crap. I figured it wouldn't look too good, or the text would be unreadable, but honestly, its great, actually using it right now.

Thanks again, much appreciated!
