Annnnd small smaple size yadda yadda yadda.
Either way. Rittich will likely get a run. Not confident he can sustain anything.

Well we'll see. He's certainly earned his shot. Who do you think is a sure thing? And how much are you willing to spend on another goalie in whom you have more confidence?

Oh, I'd spend some assets for a goalie for sure. Thankfully, I am not the GM because I'd castrate a cat at a puppet show for a legit #1.
The entire goaltending structure would change. I'd also dump a truck full of dough on Sean Burks doorstep. But, thats just me.

Why Burke?
1. He isn't even a goaltending coach anymore. Hasn't been for a while.
2. He was Smith's coach for the Coyotes during the down years there too.

I think that should have been done every offseason that Treliving has been here. And it should be done in summer 2019. But very wary of doing it now. Don't believe anyone worthwhile is available or is worth the assets. And I have some hope that Rittich is for real. Stranger things have happened.

He's mostly credited with Dubnyk's turnaround, but I would be interested in offering him an assistant GM position. Say what you want about him, but he knows goalies (Which apparantely Calgary doesn't) and he's looking for a management role

I'd be good with a Burke hiring. As far as knowing goalies, I'll grant you that on the pro-scouting side, maybe (though it sounds like Treliving was in on good goalies as well, but it didn't happen for one reason or another). But on amateur scouting, McDonald, Gillies and Parsons were pretty highly touted goalies when they were selected. Heck, same with Irving and Krahn, to name some more.

Cory Schneider has posted some pretty bad numbers this year. Maybe New Jersey would like to get ride of his 4yr x $6mil per and run with Kinkaid and 1 year of Smith as their backup.
To Calgary: Cory Schneider
To New Jersey: Mike Smith + Prospect or bottom six player.

Schneiders health overall is a bigger red flag than Mike Smiths health over a course of a season. But I'd do it if that was the cost. At worst it'd be a lateral move.

It doesn’t look to me like it is his movement per se that is compromised. To me it looks like he is having difficulty seeing the puck off the stick and tracking it in flight.
Does anyone else see this, or do I need to get my eyes checked?

Flames coaches have to do the same thing and determine which goalie gives them the best chance to win. Rittich will have to play more to determine if he gives them a better chance than Smith.

Yeah, let's trade a 1st and our goalie of the future for one of the worst contracts in the NHL. Not!

Oh, I am just having fun.
Its interesting though, a lot of established goalies are having a problem this year. Maybe the equipment changes will force a complete re-evaluation of the talent pool and a return to the more athletic goalies of the 70s and 80s.

Thats why you don't move Parsons. Probably one of the best reactionary goalies I've seen in a long time. And probably why you'd move a guy like McDonald or Gillies.

I'm really leery of taking Price. Injuries, decline in play, salary. It could be magnificent. It could be terrible and a real anchor.
