I don’t understand why anyone would want that level of integration of the electronics such that the car can BSoD on you. Honestly, battery + drivetrain. All that other crap that can render the car completely inoperable is just dumb.
Mercedes will soon offer an annual subscription to owners of its electric EQ models that lets them unlock additional power and quicker acceleration. It only costs $1200 plus tax. Every year. Welcome to the future

I would like to caveat this by first saying I think subscriptions for car features are absolutely stupid, and I would actually get behind making them illegal.
Now, devil's advocate time.
I can see a POSSIBLY valid argument for the pay up for more power subscription.
An increase in power would put more load on the battery and motors, and while the car is under warranty, that could make it more prone to failures that are covered on that warranty. So the argument could be made that you're paying a premium because you're adding some risk to Mercedes that you'll be in for an expensive fix.
The obvious counter argument is that, if that is the case, then it should be a one time payment to unlock it, not a yearly subscription, and once the car is off warranty, anyone should be able to do it for free. Absent of those options, it's 100% a scam, but if they gave you those options, I would begrudgingly say "Okay, despite being stupid, this does make some sense".
But again. THIS IS STUPID.
If I went to a dealership and they explained this subscription to me, there is a non-zero chance I would walk away from the car completely and go by something else.

The extra fee to "over clock a vehicle" (for a lack of a better term) if the manufacturer will continue to honor the warranty even with this added strain IMO, is fair.
Nickel and diming buyers on things actually installed that does not harm the vehicle and is not a service is dumb. Like heated seats.
Pay $50,000 for your Surprizame 500.. pay $1200 extra to upgrade to a Surprizame 500 Ankh Edition to get 50 extra hp and update your warranty to cover the additional risk.
They even ship you a little ankh to put on your car.

100% agree.
Charging for heated seats, or whatever, is stupid, and I honestly think in a lot of cases should be illegal.

Tesla already offers a well spec'd out car, (even the single motor) performance wise in the dual motor long range. It's already fast with a great profile. They offer a slight performance upgrade for a one time fee.
Meanwhile Mercedes is asking you to pay a annual subscription yearly to unlock the already there performance of the vehicle. The base cost of their sedan is 145k.
Seriously though I'm sure half of those ideas are crap, and the other half might have potential. More tech could solve/improve a lot of those complaints (mirrors, overtaking sightlines, etc), but hard to say what would most sensibly move the needle.
The Canadian government has announced enforceable quotas for zero-emission vehicle sales. By 2026, a fifth of all new passenger cars, trucks and SUVs sold in the country will need to be zero-emission models, such as electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
