If Brad continued here, you could bet there would be another costly mistake or two made in the same time that Conroy's been GM.
Conroy's patience has paid off very nicely, as well as holding the line with contract talks.
For as calculated as Brad came across, he was also a bit impulsive and was enamored with more than a few questionable players.
Brad did well here and turned a bad team into a good regular season team. But he never showed that ability to buy low on a guy. He always went after a guys when he had a good playoffs run, a break out season or was already in his prime about to be past his prime.
Conroy is taking on guys that other teams have given up on with assets. That is a sign of a great GM. Takes heat early on in trades, then time goes on and when you look back it doesn't makes sense how he got that return.
I still can not figure out what the Devils didn't like about Sharangovich? Guy is a stud in all 3 situations. He's 2nd in SHP in the NHL, he's capable of 1dt PP time too. How can you not fit this guy in?

I have no idea, I just know that Conroy needs to replicate that trade another couple of times.
Quite true about Treliving buying high on past players that didn't pan out too often. Neal was a terrible idea from day 1. He was already slipping, but was coming off a long run with a successful team in Vegas, and was mistakenly taken as key cog in what made them successful that year, when he was more of an expendable piece on a good team whose stock was on the way down.
Buying low in the ~25 age group is a brilliant strategy.

I'd say he got in on Hanifin and Lindholm before they hit a big improvement. Granted, he paid with Hamilton (who he also got at a decent price IMO).
Toffoli also (surprisingly) took a big step after coming to Calgary.
But he did buy high on Kadri, Huberdeau, and all the utter flops.
It's interesting to me how anglophones pronounce Slavic names. They have no problem pronouncing the u in Brzu properly, but cannot pronounce Tkachuk with the proper Tkachook.

Ka-chook sounds stupid. So we pronounce it Ka-chuk as a favour to them.
It's all about being benevolent towards our Slavic friends.

Does anyone know if Brzustewicz has spoken about the trade? would be interested in hearing what he has to say.

Friedman had some speculation, I believe this was last night on Flames Talk, that the Flames asked to speak with him perhaps prior to the trade. To see if they could sign him.
Can't recall the exact wording but it felt positive to me.
Edit - Apparently this morning with Marek, Friedman suggested they hadn't spoken with him yet so they didn't get to before the trade. Just to clarify.
