Oh yeah, I don't disagree that some kind of fine is required, just seems to be pretty excessive. That said, I doubt he ever does anything like this again.
Edit: It appears Gaston has had a few unsportsmanlike incidents this year, so maybe not that unwarranted after all.

BJK Cup draw held earlier today - Canada is in Group C with Spain and Poland. Group A looks like the group of death with Switzerland, Czechia, and USA.

Yeah, obviously you can't do that, but why the heck didn't the umpire get off his chair and check the mark? I think if he does that and either verifies his call or corrects his call, Ymer likely doesn't blow his top.

Was there a replay as I actually didn't see how close the call was? I got the feeling he felt it was not even close and didn't warrant looking at what may be a different ball mark. He probably should have got up to look seeing that's one of the arguments why Hawkeye isn't used on clay.

Ymer has to stop play immediately to get a check. He can't hit the ball long then ask.

If that is the case (and I'm not doubting you Girly), why do I often see players hit the ball then put a hand up indicating they think the ball they just hit was out? I have often seen the umpire come down from their chair to verify whether or not the ball was in. Seems to be some leeway with the interpretation of checking marks on clay.

By the way, Felix has advanced in Lyon 7-5 6-2 over Pablo Llamas Ruiz. It was far from vintage FAA today however, some very good shots but also some inexplicably bad shots as well. He gets the young French kid Arthur Fils who is a very good player on Thursday.

I'm not sure what you mean, why would a player challenge a ball they just hit?

When it's a bang-bang play at the baseline especially, the player is unsure of whether or not the ball is going to land in thus they make contact with the ball and then they put up a hand indicating that the ball was out. I'll see if I can find video evidence of such an occurrence, but I have seen an umpire come down from the chair to check the mark in such a case.

You can make contact with the ball, especially on service returns, you just have to stop play quickly, meaning if you're wrong, you lose the point. The ump either deemed Ymer took too long or he was certain it was in. It's his discretion.
In the video, Ymer doesn't raise his hand. The ball is already long, the crowd already cheered, then he walks over.

Not a great draw for Felix who hasn't looked sharp this clay season to get a clay court specialist like Fognini first round. As for Shapo it seems like any match he wins these days is a bonus but I wouldn't be shocked to see Nakashima take him out.
