I'm honestly asking because I've never played it. I don't even really play Madden much. I just naturally assumed it would effectively be Madden, but with college players and a few tweaks to the franchise / career mode concomitant with the fact that these aren't professionals but rather slav- um, that is, student athletes.
If the gameplay is so much better, why don't they just use that gameplay in the Madden series? It's the same sport.

I can't comment because I don't play madden. I think i did once on Xbox One a year a two ago for about an hour. The gameplay felt just like NCAA 2014. Typical EA. Nothing new or special about it. Actually it felt worse than NCAA 14.
I can say that it is an amazingly fun game with awesome career modes and good gameplay. It also had pretty much every team and bazillions of uniform options, custom conferences, custom NY6 bowl game ties etc.
Is the actual football better than madden? Hard to say. But everything else is better IMO.
Plus this is more like, imagine if EA produced no NHL series for the last 6 years. (except imagine they sometimes put some effort in, unlike NHL which is the same game very year)

I always felt that madden was slow and plodding compared to NCAA. Something about it was always off. There was a fair bit of subculture built into NCAA and renaming the players that totally weren’t compensated but the announcers would magically call them by name once you changed it. There’s a ringer article about it.
Next up I need 2k to bring back hockey.

I guess I can get that. I'd play NHL if the game modes were better (i.e. it had GM connected).

That's about how long it's been since I played NHL and I have no desire to pick it up, so... yeah.

I'm honestly disappointed. I was hoping they were going to take a bit more time with it and normalize / fix everything to make it one coherent, seamless package. Looks like it's just a facelift.
Also,

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, coming May 14th for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and backwards-compatible with current consoles, packages the Shepard trilogy into one game. That includes over 40 DLC packs released during the series’s run, as well as Mass Effect 3’s extended cut. The game’s story will stay intact, including its controversial ending.
|
Booo.
... I'll still play it.

The webpage for the game specifically mentions all the changes to ME1 to make it play more like 2 and 3. I call that a big win. The graphical changes they highlighted from ME1 look great too.

Edit: for those who clearly have never known the joys of NCAA the only real similarity it had to madden was that they were both football games. Most people had a favourite and stuck with it. They have similar play calling mechanisms and that’s about all. Some of the love is nostalgic of course but it really was the superior game, I stopped playing football games altogether when it died. Madden doesn’t come close to scratching that itch. I suppose now we should call off the fatwa on Ed O’Bannon.

Hate to be a downer, but we all know how this is going to go. All of your favourite game modes will be broken shells of their former selves, but oh look! Shiny Ultimate Team and lootbox content!

That's all good, but what I actually wanted was for them to integrate them so that it effectively played like one long game with three chapters to it. And yeah, I was definitely hoping they'd fix the ending, considering what a black mark it was on the whole thing. Some people might think those were unrealistic pipe dreams, but it wouldn't have been all that difficult to do if they'd spent another few months developing it.
As it is, it's basically a launcher that will allow you to launch each individual game with the DLC and some graphical enhancements, and they did some work to fix some of the issues with gameplay in ME1. Sigh... well, okay, fine, I guess. If I can run it at a high resolution at 60+ with my 2070 I'll be content with it. I was just hoping they'd go further than they did because this is likely to be the final, best version of the series that gets produced. I'd have preferred if they'd made it the best it could be.

I won't be surprised at all if closer to release they announce that there is going to be an alternate ending.
Would be a great way to generate hype right before it launches.

Nah. They've explicitly said it's not going to change. They're not going to just brazenly lie about that.
I certainly agree that if they had done that, it would have increased the hype significantly.

Actually looks almost like my last modded playthrough of the series a year ago, using mods like MEUITM and ALOT and my own personal reshade I tinkered around with.
The lighting upgrade is nice though and badly needed, as well as the gameplay tweaks to Mass Effect 1, and having everything available in one launcher will be nice.
Still will end up buying this even though I was initially dissapointed with the video they released today, but the couple of side by side image/video comparisons on their website made me feel a bit better.

Does anyone actually care about this stuff?
Go ahead and stuff the game full of that crap. Just give me NCAA 14 with updated graphics and updated uniforms and I'm a happy camper.
EA has been printing money using that exact strategy on every single sports franchise they own for the last 20 years. Why would they change that just for NCAA? It makes no sense.

I'm guessing the people who said they really enjoyed the old games modes and are all over twitter celebrating their potential return might care about them, but what do I know?

Yeah I'm surprised people are so excited over this. This is still EA and EA Sports people. Look at every series they've produced in the last like six years -- stale, full of microtransactions and BS, no real innovation. This will not suddenly change.

You guys are clueless lol. Did you even read my post?
No one is asking for new innovations. We just want ncaa football back. You guys clearly don’t understand the series so why make yourselves look silly by commenting?
Go ahead, add in micro transactions. That doesn’t change the fact ncaa football is finally back after a 6 year absence.
What a bizarre topic to rally against.

Really had to turn up the condescending ######baggery to 10 here, eh?
Are you telling me you don't care about the gameplay and you're just happy that there's a football game with NCAA licensing back? I guess if you're a guy who just likes to load up an online H2H or play with your buddies on the couch, then that's totally fair.
I was one of the people who really enjoyed the deep offline modes in the series. As such my excitement over this announcement is pretty muted based on EA's recent track record of completely gutting those modes in their other titles.

This is not that game, and very unlikely to be anything like it, is the point we're trying to make.

I was a lifelong Madden guy playing the series annually since I was a teenager on various platforms but EA finally managed to break me. I finally realized I was part of the problem buying the game every year so I haven't purchased the last three seasons of Madden and I won't buy another EA NFL game again.
