Why is Ovechkin the best goal score of all time? Stats? Nope, Highlight reel goals? Nope. What is that makes him the best? Pavel Bure ranks higher then him IMO

GOATS being a once in a century type talent, shouldn't there be just one?

Not saying I agree 100%, but he is one of the best ever.
Going by era adjusted goal scoring

Rank Player Years G/A
1. Gordie Howe 925
2. Jaromir Jagr 841
3. Wayne Gretzky 758
4. Alex Ovechkin 744

Considering missed time from lockouts and potential few more years.

Nope. Forsberg’s willy was still better at hockey than that guy.

I heard that Lundqvist had the best Swedish Willy in the game but that's just locker room gossip.

So, meanwhile ...

Sean Monahan is three points and five goals shy of setting new career highs with 29-games left.

He is +25 goals ahead of everyone else in his draft class, and is second in career production behind only #1 pick and 2018 Hart-Trophy nominee Nathan MacKinnon.

Sean Monahan is good.

Good numbers for a #2 center, tops.

Once in a century? I would have thought "all time" meant that - crazy of me.

As good as Monahan is, unless he takes off over the next 6 years and becomes a generational player like Iginla, the comparison is flawed. Jarome did not take off consistently until he was in his mid 20s

Iginla was a great player for a long time but IMO calling him "generational" is absurd.

Iginla was never generational. One 2-month stretch where he was arguably the best player in the world does not make him generational.

In the years after his MVP season, he scored 67, 73, and 67 points. He didn't break 90 again until he was 29. Two of Iggy's least impressive offensive seasons coincide with the most team success the Flames ever had with him. Cup final in 04, and Division winner in 2005-06.

The years Iggy scored 80+, the Flames either missed the playoffs entirely or got dummied in the first round by Detroit, San Jose and Chicago.

I would bet that Monahan continues to mirror Iginla's production next year; it's hard to be a 90 point guy year in year out unless you're actually generational. A few 90+ seasons surrounded by a bunch of 65-75 campaigns still gets you into the Hall of Fame.

Maybe offensive totals may not have been generational, but he was one of a kind that we will never ever see a player like him again.

Stats wise maybe if you are fixated on that, however what he did all around the game on and off the ice means no one will ever be like him again. That to me means generational. Tell me another player who does all the things he can do now at present day or recent times.

It's just a title. A meaningless title used by fans and media. Hardly absurd if a Flames fans wants to build him up. Calgary fans are the only group of fans who seem worried about being homers. Embrace it a bit.
