To be honest, if it's your first time in Vegas you'll spend plenty of time just exploring all the resorts. Especially in March when it's not that hot, it'll be easy to walk all along the Strip to see everything. And in Vegas there's no issues with carrying an oversized alcoholic beverage when you're walking along the Strip.

For Mexican, I like gonzalez y gonzalez at NY NY. Not expensive at all. Plus you can't really get decent Mexican food in Canada.

Hmmm vegas with no gambling, I don't think I'm posting in the right thread BUT when not gambling I would recommend the bodies exhibit if you've never seen it before. It's in the Luxor and we walked back to TI seeing all the strip has to offer.

I've also seen Phantom at the Venetian and wasn't excited to see it AT ALL but was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the entertainment.

If you are staying at Ceasars and like a good steakhouse I would recommend Joe's. It's fairly expensive but we make sure to stop there every time we go.

Have fun and oh yes if you are a drinker do the smart thing and get the perfect margarita from margaritaville, I guarantee you won't need another drink for a few hours

Have fun I'm headed down myself at the beginning of February

I went to Vegas for the first time last July. We stayed at the Bellagio - I would rank the room as ok. The pool was nice, but as I reccall it closed by 7 or so. The food and drinks at the Bellagio are stupid expensive (as I recall a Pina Coloda was $15 or so). To me Ceaser's had a better vibe than The Bellagio.

We ate at Bobby Flay's restaurant - it was pretty good. I was happy cause it was right by the sports book at Ceaser's and they had a CFL game on the big screen.

Shopping at teh discount mall is good - there is a nice outdoor mall that I thought was better than the disount mall by the airport.

Thanks for the info everyone.

That Trump Tower recommendation for the no-smoking has essentially swayed us into staying there, big thanks.

Smoking isn't that big of a deal in Vegas in the nicer hotels because they've got ventilation systems that kick ass. So don't let that be the deciding factor.

I agree... I didnt even notice the smoke in any hotel, unless it was the person next to me smoking... I am in the same boat, I hate to be around smoke. I honestly think you would prefer to stay at Ceasers, the location cant be beat. Trump Tower is quite the ways from all the action. Looks close on a map, but if your walking all day, its far.

It's really not that far. It's right near Wynn which is the last stop at that end of the strip. Makes things easy because you just go one way down the strip and back along the other.
And the hotel rooms are by far the nicest I've had in Vegas as well, it's not just the no smoking. Great rates too usually compared to the other high end places.

but, yes the location of Caesers is better if that's a deciding factor. I don't think the OP can go wrong either way.

That is true, the rooms are a lot cheaper. For a first time trip to Vegas tho, I would stay at Ceasers.

Once you know the city and the ways to get around I would say stay at Trump.

We make sure we eat there all the time. Plus their Margarita by the Mile, or Yard long margarita's or sky high margaritas (depending on the place you get them at, I think Gonzalez y Gonzalez calls them sky high) are among the cheapest I've found in Vegas, and they make them somewhat potent. I bought one at Caesar's for $21 and it only had 2 shots in it. At Gonzalez Y Gonzalex they had 6 shots in it, and it was $14 with the meal ($16 at the bar).

Smoke really really bothers my wife, and she also felt the same way. At most places she only noticed smoke if she was right next to somebody who was smoking.

I wouldn't stay at Trump Tower. The distance is one knock against it. It isn't truly far, but it isn't directly on the strip. Another knock is that it doesn't have its own casino. It just doesn't feel right to not have to go through the casino to get anywhere.

I always find that once you get to Wynn you're way too far away from the action (even though you aren't). To have to go extra to get to Trump just seems too much for me. I stayed at Mandaly Bay for a conference. Amazing place, but it is at the far south end of the strip. To go to other places on the strip seemed too far. I would love to stay there again, but only if I'm at a conference.

Was going to start a new thread, but thought I'd bump this one instead, as it's not really that old. Some good tips in here.

We're going down this weekend, staying at Planet Hollywood.......no kids and a bunch of other couples, so looking for some shows to see. We've been once before, so I know some of the 'first-time' things to do/see. Sounds like 'O' or 'Ka' would be good choices, how about comedians, any must-sees? Also, the wife was wondering about the 'Price is Right' show at Bally's.......might be fun, but I don't want to go if it's super cheesy.

And has anyone gone into any poker tourneys on the strip? Looks like PH has 4 tourneys daily, so I'll probably play at least one there, just wondering what other places have nice poker rooms with tourneys that have decent prize pools.

I don't play poker, but my wife's cousin enters a tourney or two when he is in Vegas. He'll play wherever has a tourney to his liking, but I know he usually goes to MGM Grand.

If I find out you hit on my fiance while in vegas this weekend!! *shakes fist at KootneyFlamesFan*

Last time I was there I saw Love at the mirage if you are in to beatles music it was fantastic. From what I understand most casinos will have daily poker tournys. I myself have not entered one though so I don't know where the best ones would be.

The main thing is to have a great time. And watch out for my drunken fiance and her friends! And of course report back here so we know the best aspects of your trip

Well, I'm married with 2 kids, so your fiance is safe from me, anyways.

Sounds like you can't really go wrong with Ka, O, or Love. I love Beatles music, so I would probably like that one if that's the one we end up going to.

I would add La Reve to that list as well. No bad seat in the house in that theater.

Pass. It's brutal, and nothing like the Price is Right.

Perfect, thanks. Wasn't sure if anyone on CP knew much about it, glad you gave me the heads-up.

Unless it was worth it I'd rather use that money and put it towards a better show.
