My biggest issue is that I logged in on my lvl 50, there is zero guidance as to where I should go or do.
If you go to your station, you'll find mission npc's for the black hole, section X and Illum, and I think Oricron.
You're ships holo has Makeb, if you've got the hutt cartel expansion. If you have the shadow of reven there's a terminal in you're ship that will give you the starting point with the fractured alliance 1 and 2 chapters,

I've run two of my toons through all of the end game content including the Shadow of Revan and Rise of the Emperor addons.
On Rishi, each character gets an individual mission.
My Agent met up with his own boss to rescue a former comrade.
My Jedi Counselor had to build a holocron.
But the fascinating one was tonight with my Sith Inquisitor

He met up with the former apprentice of Darth Thanaton, who was studying the Rishi maze, which is an unexplored mini galaxy. He had four long range antennae on on Rishi, that only you could activate due to the events on Belsavis. You activate the four devices and they basically add four years to your life.
As an evil Sith obsessed with immortality you give him resources to explore the new galaxy to find out the secret of immortality.
The reason why this is facinating and possible foreshadowing is because of what happens in the new Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion that's coming out in October where a new Empire invades and destroys the Republic and the Empire.
Did you suddenly paying attention to this dwarf galaxy bring forth this new empire?
Did your Sith Inquisitor bring down the Republic and Empire by mistake?

Without getting into spoilers and such, if you play(ed) this game and enjoyed it, early access for the new expansion started yesterday, and it is fantastic! Bioware has gone back to the roots of telling a story, I'm only on the 5th of the 9 released chapters, and it has been great so far.
Why do you guys have to bump this thread? My computer died a while back and I haven't replaced it. I've missed playing this ruttin' a lot, but don't see myself going back any time soon.

So I jumped in tonight, the download and upgrade took a few hours. Just a point, if you get to the download part and its not progressing, disable the bitraider and it works just fine.
I just wanted to take my Inquisitor for a spin through Ziost, CZ and Black hole to do a dailies run. The Level Sync makes things a bit harder, but if you're properly armed and armored its not a big deal. Heroic 4's are gone and they've been replaced by heroic 2's.
So the first time I went in and looked at my companions, the entire companion system has changed. Now instead of armoring them up they just auto stat up to their level and their armor is just a shell now, there's no stats.
I did notice that when I logged in all of my companions were naked, which was disturbing, but apparently when the upgrade happens they're stripped of their weapons and armor, most of it is in your inventory, but if your missing gear for your companions, head over to your mail box, they'll be a wack of recovered items.
I did notice that the cash rewards are a lot smaller now, but you can level up to 65 in a pretty big hurry.
I haven't looked at the crafting system, but it looks like its gone through big changes as well.

Yeah, I can't find any specs on my graphics card other than what is posted.
I decided to try redownloading, reinstalling, and repatching last night to see if that would help. I've patched enough to play on the starting worlds, however after I click 'Play' my screen resolution drops to 800x600 and a small window ~1/4 of my screen opens to the splash screen, but the small loading cog in the lower right won't turn.
As for running the installer fix, I assume it's in 'Settings' under the username drop down at the top of the launcher. It's the only gear wheel I can find. Sadly, it's greyed out and I can't click it. I'm guessing the launcher and game have to patch completely for me to be able to access it.

Try typing in "dxdiag" in your search bar and run that to see more specs on your video card. Chances are it's an onboard video card (part of the motherboard) which are generally not great for games. DXDiag will at least tell you how much video memory you have.

Very strange usually the only time your locked on the starter worlds is if its still downloading the rest of the game during your initial install.
Yes your right they changed the position of the installer fix to under settings, if its greyed out its not a problem with your installer.
Your best bet would be to probably produce an in game ticket to support.
Your video card should be fine.

I'm in the process of repatching, as I completely uninstalled when I first encountered the problem. I'm thinking I won't be able to access the settings option if I'm still patching? Maybe...
