For the record, despite my earlier statements of saying I plan to play this, I have not picked it up yet. I don't intend to in the near future.

Just hover over the dialogue choices to see which is dark or light. Or alternately, you can turn on an option to show the dark/light symbol beside each choice. It's with the option to turn on subtitles.

Use it as a cross-addiction. All the professionals nowadays are recommending new, less harmful, addictions as a means of dealing with old ones. [disclaimer: this is not true. At all]

So, I just got this game, but I'm have a trouble choosing my faction.
I usually play as the "good" guys in games like this, but is the Republic so good that it borders on cheesy and superficial? I'd rather quests feel important, interesting and fun. Which faction do you guys recommend?

As I recommend to all; You must become a Jedi, like your father before you.

Smuggler is a Republic class but you're not exactly a goodie-goodie. The class story makes a pretty big deal of the fact that you're a prominent member of the criminal underworld.
Also, regardless of which faction you choose, you can make light or dark side choices at key moments. You could, for example, play a Republic Jedi who has fallen to the dark side.

I was on Tatooine and I went to an Oasis and a ghost of myself came out and b1tched me out for being a milquetoast Namby Pampy Sith who hovers between light and dark, it demanded that I follow the dark path.
So I've done my last good deed in the game now.
Plus some of the dark side light sabers deal a ton of damage.
I am having a lot of problems with the Guru in the Dunes mission where you face two Jedi Masters. Not matter what I do with cool downs and Sims and force charges, I get me butt kicked in.

Do you have a stun ability? Seems to be the best option usually when facing two strong opponents. Stun one so you can focus on the other.
You also might just need to gain a couple levels and come back.

You can play as either faction and still be "good" or "evil." I play my Imperial Agent as a "good" guy and generally take light side choices. Granted, sometimes that just means something like killing someone quickly instead of letting them suffer depending on what the script has planned. But usually it's more like saving people or letting them go instead of turning them in.
Alternatively you can choose to play a Republic character as an evil, selfish jerk and take all dark side choices.

I'm level 29 they're both level 29 elite and they whack your companion at the start of the fight taking him out. I've tried to use stun ability but the Jedi Master basically throws it back at me.
I've gone to Alderaan to do some side missions to level up.
The cool thing is once you hit level 30 you get your legacy name.
The other thing, you really need to make sure they you buy your speeder, Tatooine for example is massive.

I don't have the game but I did have one question, what happens to a sith that chooses light path options all the time or vice versa? Do they defect and switch over or something?

I would imagine you're just stigmatized by the true sith.

Your master isn't too impressed with you.
There are certain weapons that you can't get.
There's been two times where I've run into a Sith lord who's noticed that I have the taint of the light side to me.
