You're not really in a position to be challenging folks there Joe.

Rocket space shuts down without ever opening its office in Calgary
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...472797?cmp=rss
Quote:
A tech accelerator once touted as proof Calgary can attract Silicon Valley talent has shut down, three years after it was announced that it would be opening its first Canadian headquarters in the city.
California-based tech accelerator RocketSpace pulled out of the UK in December 2019, and a message currently posted to the company's website states it is closing down entirely.
CEO Duncan Logan confirmed to CBC News that the company is closing down due to what he described as a partnership with Chinese investors that did not work out as hoped.
RocketSpace announced in May 2017 it was renovating a 75,000-square-foot office in the Edison building at 150 Ninth Avenue S.W., to create co-work space for up to 1,000 people hoping to grow their tech startups.
|
Quote:
An article on Calgary Economic Development's website at the time touted the company's decision to establish a Calgary HQ as a turning point for the city — CEO Mary Moran and Mayor Naheed Nenshi had publicly credited a trade mission to San Francisco as luring the company up north.
"This is our moment, Calgary," the June 2017 article read.
"So what does the RocketSpace win mean for Calgary? It means our strategy to put Calgary on the map in [Silicon Valley] is working. It means our instincts are right — we have all the ingredients (proximity, talent and inexpensive real estate) to court the big tech companies."
Calgary Economic Development did not respond to a request for comment.

WeWork opened up an office in Calgary, that seems to have gone under the radar. Basically RocketSpace anyways. The startup office space genre is still there.

Sutherland wants to sell the Telus Convention Centre?
Now, I'm no expert, but I think that while the downtown commercial vacancy rate is above 20% is probably not the time to even consider selling off downtown property.

Law society accepts resignation of former PC party president Bill Smith'
The law society had received, and dismissed, formal complaints about Smith as far back as 2017
Quote:
The hearing report said Smith suffered from a "longstanding illness for which he continues to receive treatment."
After hearing evidence from Smith and a professional who treats him, the committee concluded his illness probably contributed to the poor judgment he exercised that led to the complaint.
|
Quote:
Court documents show Smith requested to be listed as inactive by the law society on Feb. 27, 2018 "due to health concerns."
Smith effectively stopped practising law on March 7, 2018 after the law society appointed a custodian to take control of his practice.
In February 2019, CBC News reported the law society was investigating Smith for misappropriating funds held in trust by his law practice.
|
And just for some provincial flavor:
Quote:
Despite Smith's publicized legal and health problems, Health Minister Tyler Shandro in February appointed Smith as vice chair of the provincial Medical Appeals Board.

Sucks that's he's ill and it's impacting his judgement, though. Hope he gets good care.

Rick Bell's article today basically defends Magliocca.
Someone needs to fire Rick Bell into the sun again.

Why would he? It appears he's just getting a slap on the wrist here. He has to apologize, take some training, and can't partake in any business travel for a year.
