I'm not saying be a jerk about it, but I picture "okay we'll speed it up" *nothing changes*.
I always thought of them as just giving a job to a semi-retiree for the sake of optics.
I have had marshalls ask how the pace of play is and my answer is always the same: "It's fine! Great weather, wonderful game, good friends...what's the rush to finish and get home to sit on the couch?"

Couple Things:
I have played lots of courses outside of Calgary and if you are playing slow they will warn you then if you continue they force you to skip holes.
On your last point there about whats the rush? I absolutely HATE playing golf where I am waiting on every shot on every hole. It's almost impossible to get into a rhythm and score well and enjoy myself. Sure if I am out for a booze game then I don't care how long it takes.

I once spent 5 minutes taking to a Marshall at Shagannapi while we waited for the group ahead to finish up on the green. He then went to talk tp the group behind us and then came to give us crap for playing slow. I told him we've been waiting on the group ahead the entire round and he replied "that's what everybody says". The fact that the hole in front of the group ahead was empty did not seem relevant in his assessment.
I would not refer to this man as situationally aware.

I wouldn't refer to Shagannapi as a golf course

LOL! I hear ya but sometimes I get dragged away from the home course.
There is no marshals at Silver Springs and I have never finished in over 4.5 hours. 4 hours is the norm.

Thanks for the Maui advice. We'll probably go with one of the Wailea courses.
Any tips on how to secure a good rate in this day and age of internet deals?

You likely won't get a discounted rate. Unless things have changed in the last month and a half, they usually don't discount tee times on other site. (gold and emerald).
Wailea blue is the only course out of the 3 that you can book at a discount. At least from what I saw when I was there.

McKenzie Meadows will have the public side of their range open starting today for those in the south. RCGA range has been crazy busy the past couple weekends so nice to have another option with the weather we've had.

Played the Badlands twice and Rhodes Ranch once this past weekend in Vegas. I thought Badlands was pretty meh, very dry and yellow but the greens were crazy fast. Rhodes Ranch was an absolutely beautiful course, tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, greens, everything in immaculate shape. Would definitely play there again. Also, can't go wrong with the buy 5 beers get 1 free from the golf cart!

Bought some used Mizuno mx17 irons the other day. Paid a $125 and they are in excellent shape. These are game improvement irons with graphite shafts. Tonight i'm going to put on some new grips and take them to the driving range tomorrow.

Good to hear Rhodes is in good shape. 13 is usually always under some sort of repair but it sounds like it is fine. They used to offer deals like 18 holes, hot dog, cart, two beers and a small supper for $50 bucks. Couldn't afford not to play it for that

I'm down to my last iron and things are going quite smoothly. I get the last grip halfway on and it sticks! In my haste to get done I had forgotten the most important step in regripping, make sure you use lots of solvent in the grip!

Girlfriend is looking to get into golf and wants to buy a set... she's quite vertically challenged so I imagine we're looking for a petite set.
There isn't a lot of selection on Kijiji right now and I think she'd prefer new... is Golf Town our only option for an actual store front in Calgary? Are their any online retailers who ship to Canada?

Have you previously played with graphite shaft irons?
The last set of clubs I purchased were graphite shafts and I feel as though I made a huge mistake with that set of irons. I went from steel to graphite and it seemed like my game suffered. I'm a smaller guy and I figured the graphite shafts would help me gain a few yards but I found I had less shot control with the graphite shaft. I'm going back to steel shafts with my next set.
