If Bennett signs cheap, the Flames will sign Jagr.

If Bennett takes up most of the remaininng cap, they'll sign Iginla.

Just what I think.

Rather sign the other former Panther winger in Vanek, but I'd be fine with Jagr.

I would want nothing to do with Vanek. He is terrible, and would quickly become a whipping boy. I think Jagr and Iginla both makes cases as being a good fit for a variety of reasons, but I can't think of Vanek as a good fit for any line.

Vanek the lazy, inconsistent floater? Don't want anything to do with him. I'd take Jagr everyday over Vanek

Timely article out today.

Quote:
The 45-year-old is even considering starting the season with the second-tier team he owns in his native Czech Republic.

"The most serious negotiations I have are with Kladno, because Kladno has a smart owner who knows what he wants," Jagr joked, according to NHL.com. "No, really, I don't have a clue. I leave it all on my agent [Petr Svoboda]. There is a couple of [NHL] teams that showed interest, but nothing specific yet."

"That would be the advantage of playing for Kladno. One thing is I would be at home and the other is I would have a chance to leave for the NHL anytime there is an opportunity," he said, according to NHL.com. "Let's say some team deals with injuries and needs help, then I could pack my stuff in the next day and go. If I played in Extraliga, I wouldn't have such an option unless the Czech league season would be over."

"I know very well I'm not the same player like 10 or 15 years ago, when I was able to win games by myself," he said, according to NHL.com. "It's up to the coach what position he wants to use me. Maybe it would be even better for me if I played on a second or third line because I would play against worse players and worse defensemen. I didn't have as much luck in my entire career; I always had to face the top defensemen. Even in Florida, I always played against the best, which was always very tough."

"This situation is a little uncomfortable when I don't know what's going to happen, and also when is the season going to start for me, because the season in Europe starts one month earlier,"

Well, so much for the theory that Jagr wouldn't accept a lesser role.

I see him as a good option next to Monahan and Gaudreau, and I see him as a good option next to Bennett.

I hope if the Flames don't sign him, that some other team does (with the exception of Edmonton, Vancouver or Anaheim). I still enjoy watching Jagr do his thing in this league.

If Iginla or Jagr gets signed it decreases the likelihood that Hathaway plays. It may sound crazy, but I think Hathaway is needed more in the Flames lineup than Iginla or Jagr. Hathaway works very hard at both ends of the ice. He may only score 10 - 15 points versus Iginla's 20 - 30 or Jagr's 40, but he brings so much more defensively, better work ethic, and zero risk of a distraction. It can be argued that Iginla is even tougher than Hathaway, but is he going to work super hard at both ends of the ice? Are Iginla's 10 - 20 extra points going to make up for his defensive liabilities? Probably not. The Flames have scoring punch already, especially with the D factored in.

I think the Flames have their team for the 2017/18 season. Let Hathaway have his chance on the 4th line on opening night, and let Jankowski steal Stajan's job.

Are the Flames an aspiring contender? Yes
Does Jagr make the Flames better? Yes

Jagr may be losing pace by the minute, but he still has incredible puck protection ability, and his 10-foot puck distribution game is top notch which would mesh well with Gaudreau and Monahan in the offensive zone.

Absolute no-brainer if the term and dollars are agreeable, once Bennett has been locked up. But, it would require Brouwer and Lazar getting fewer minutes which could be a tough pill for the GM to swallow, especially in Brouwer's case.

This goes the same with Doan, Iggy and Jagr but I'm sure most GM's will wait till either preseason or just before the season starts to give either 3 a PTO and than go from there.

Jagr would be an amazing add to this squad.

Based on all the speculation - I think if he's going to sign with the Flames it will be after the remaining contracts (Kulak, Wotherspoon, Bennett) are inked.

Brad will have money to spend and a position of weakness on the right side of the ice.

I'm pretty confused at why no one has signed him yet. His counting stats AND advanced stats are amazing. And they don't show signs of him having stepped off a cliff.

I don't see a position of weakness on the right side at all

RWers: Ferland (LW/RW), Frolik (RW/LW), Versteeg (RW/LW), Brouwer (RW), Hathaway (RW), Lazar (C/RW), Foo (RW)

I struggle to fit the existing forwards in if we assume the team is healthy. Ferland, Frolik, Versteeg can all play top two lines. Brouwer somewhat failed at that last season but can perhaps rebound. Hathaway is a prototypical 4th line RW and a great fit for that role. I'd call that pretty good depth. Lazar is a bit of a wildcard who could play C or 2-4th line RW.

Don't really see the room for Jagr/Iginla. I mean I guess if you don't wanna see Jankowski/Foo or other call-ups this season.

My speculation is that people don't like the wow factor of our RWers. A lot of the highest skill on our team is concentrated in the LW/C positions. Our lines can be built to be very successfully having high skill LWers and centres and the complimenting them with our existing RWers. We have powerforwards in Ferland/Brouwer. We have skilled two-way forwards in Frolik/Versteeg. We signed a great RW prospect in Foo. We have untapped potential with Lazar. And then we have a gritty, energetic, tough 4th grinder in Hathaway. If you look at the overall structure of the forward lineup I don't see a lack of skill at all.

Where's the hole in our lineup that Jagr is supposed to fill? I really don't see it.

YMMV but I don't know how someone could look at that and see strength. The only one of those guys that I'd take over Jagr for this season is Frolik.

Well I explained how most of our complimentary players are on RW while our pure skill guys are on LW and C. Doesn't mean our lineup is weak. Sure if you look at RW in isolation it doesn't look like a contender but when you look at the lines as a whole you see how the RWers nicely compliment the game breaking skill we have at LW and C.

Jagr is a risk. Pretty much nobody plays at his age. The risk is his game drops off at any time. The points were there last year but clearly the scouts and GMS have seen something or a lack of something in his game or he would've received more interest thus far. Especially with a new team coming into the league this year and the dispersal of talent that happened because of it.

I'd take Jagr out of all the mediocre suggestions I've seen. I just don't think he fills a huge need at all. You can make a strong lineup up front with the players we already have.

The biggest reason for me and I'm surprised it hasn't been brought up yet is the circus and distraction that would follow him around. Hockey more than any other sport is about team. Caring for your teammates and doing anything for the guy in the stall beside you. I think the flames are doing a great job instilling this into the room.

In the event Jarg is brought into the fold it quickly becomes about him. Reporters are asking the young guys " how does it feel to hang with Jagr" Jarg this, Jarg that. You quickly forget about the message and goal at times and can become a negative distraction.

Stay the course, you have enough leadership and positive influence within the room. No need to bring that circus show to Calgary when we are on the cusp of taking it to the next level

Slow and old. Remind me again how either of those traits fit on a team looking to be a cup contender?

This is such a non-issue. He was a great mentor for both Huberdeau and Barkov. Great teammate, and is sort of inspirational to younger players. He was never a media distraction in Florida.

This isn't meant to be offensive to a fan of that team but the panthers finished 13th in the conference. Not saying Jarg was the reason but why even risk it if your the Flames?

The year before they finished with over 100 points and had their best season in franchise history with Jagr having a big role. That's the potential reward for bringing in a generational player in the right situation.

2 years at age 45 changes alot. I respect you as a member of this board but I guess we just don't see eye to eye on this one. I stand behind no Jarg. No Iginla. No Doan. See who emerges in camp and make mid-season adjustments if needed
