Default Wennberg Gone Wild

A big offseason continues in San Jose as MJK keeps shuffling the deck. We had many inquiries on Wennberg, some offers were tempting and some were not. We didn't think we were going to trade him until negotiations with the Wild ramped up this morning.

Thanks to everyone that made offers, and to those I said I would be keeping him I apologize. But I think I got the perfect return we needed to get the deal done at the last minute.

To Minny:

To SJ:
Teuvo Teravainen
Casey Mittlestadt
Calle Rosen
$1mill in 2018-19

We get back a player that had a pretty good NHL season and looks to be a good fit in Carolina. We got back a top bluechip prospect we really like in Mittlestadt. We get a young D the Leafs just signed in Rosen and a bit of cash for next season.

The bottom line we had a log jam at C until recently with Pavelski, Hanzal, Wennberg, Sheary so moving out Sheary and Wennberg for more wingers will help.

We will continue to retool out lineup and thanks to Grant for being patient while we worked through this.

Holy mackerel, that's a phenomenal return. Way to go, Dave.

With Wennberg we add a top two-way forward under contract control for 2 more years. You gotta pay a premium for that type of thing.

TT is a guy I like but I view as a top 6 forward on a bad team, or a top 9 forward on a good one. Mittlestadt is one of the guys I really liked heading into the draft but view him as being 3-4 years away. I also think he is a boom or bust guy. Obviously I think he booms otherwise I wouldn't have drafted him, but there is risk there given the level of hockey he played during his draft year.

Rosen is the dark horse in this transaction, but could end up being what swings the value Dave's way.

Overall I think the value is appropriate.
