Perhaps a poor choice of words on my part, but ultimately he was deemed expendable.

Expendable in the sense that they were getting a clear upgrade to replace him- not give him away for nothing.

Treliving knows that he has a lot of defensive depth to work with so the thinking was basically use that depth to upgrade the third line center position.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Kadri - Bennett
Mangiapane - Backlund - Zucker
Lucic - Ryan - Reider

Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - Hamonic
Valimaki - Kylington
Davidson

Rittich
Talbot

Still think this lineup is damn near perfect. Such a shame those two moves didn't work out

He was the balance for Connor Brown was he not? Leafs wanted his salary off the books and Jankowski made less (by like $500k but still)

I don't think so. I think Toronto wanted a cheaper third line center to replace Kadri. Downgrade their center position to help fill a need on D. Hence why they went out and got Kerfoot when the Jankowski deal fell through.

Blue Jackets depth winger Brandon Dubinsky is out for a significant period of time with a wrist injury.

https://theathletic.com/1240686/2019...-wrist-injury/

The Blue Jackets are starting to get really low on forwards, with the following guys as locks to start the season:

Cam Atkinson
Gustav Nyquist
Nick Foligno
Josh Anderson
Pierre-Luc Dubois
Oliver Bjorkstrand
Alex Wennberg
Boone Jenner
Alexandre Texier
Riley Nash

That's only 10 guys, and they don't exactly have a bunch of players pushing for spots.

Wonder if a Frolik deal makes even more sense, now. Still think defenseman Dean Kukan is a logical fit.

Unless there is problems from Frolik's camp, I'd rather keep him. Now, Czarnik... maybe he can be traded away for a pick. The Flames would have wiggle room in the cap and Columbus would have a depth forward to help out with injuries.

There have been many CP posters who suggest the Flames should deal Czarnik and while i can see the logic, i just can't help but feel it would be a move the Flames and us fans would end up regretting when watching AZ score thirty goals a season because of his skill plus he was put in a quality situation

I don't think that helps. You could just type out "Czarnik" ...

Well come on I mean he's certainly no Robert Schremp but I don't feel it's completely out of this world to consider Czarnik could turn out to be "Matt Moulson" capable or Conor Sheary'esque type production when he was on a line with Sid........CP is such a happy place

I mean, anyone could see a big jump in production, given the right opportunity, cough#Chiasson#cough but I am not too concerned about the likelihood of Czarnik breaking out if we moved him.

If he did, good for him. But it seems pretty low risk.

Czarnik looked pretty good towards the end of the season when he got more ice time.

I’d rather keep him as I firmly believe that we are due for a major injury. We haven’t had one in a while (excluding Valimaki who is still considered a prospect).

Insider trading:
https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider...g-rfas~1788867

Jets recently offered 2 year bridge deal around $6 million per to Laine. LeBrun's sense is that agent wants above $7mil per on 2 year

Rantanen and Avs still working on long term deal.
Avs offered $8.5 mil per
Number needs to start with a 9 for Rantanen to sign on a 7 year deal

Connor and Jets looking at 6 year deal but both sides are not close on $
Connor might consider a 4 year deal similar to Timo Meier's deal with SJ but Jets don't have an appetite for that

Wild GM Guerin wants a top center or a 2nd line center
Wild have abundance of wingers, prospects, and picks as bait

Pens will trade a defenceman
Lots of speculation on Jack Johnson but that is a tough contract to move
Rutherford will move one of his blueliners

Preds and Josi working on a contract extension.
Preds offered $8.5 mil per on a long term deal
Josi camp wants the number to start with a 9 and be the 3rd highest paid d-man after Doughty and Karlsson
suspects it gets done

Acquiring Faulk and signing gives Blues some leverage with Peitrangelo contract talks

NHL has not changed their stance on the Olympics in CBA talks. They do not want to participate in Beijing.
IOC will need to step up for the NHL to participate.

The Avs not willing to pony up an extra 500k a year for Rantanen seems silly.

“Starts with 9” does not necessarily mean that Rantanen’s camp would be content with $9.0. More likely Colorado will need to get to at least 9.5.
