Guidelines for Dogs in WBC

  • Dogs are permitted on the West Bragg Creek Trails, but please be a responsible dog owner.
  • Dogs must be on-leash in the Provincial Recreation Area (PRA), including the parking lot and surrounding area, otherwise you could be fined.
  • Outside of the PRA, dogs must be under control at all times.
  • Do not allow dogs to harass livestock, wildlife (which is illegal) or other trail users.
  • If skiing with a dog on a leash, a short leash is recommended, as a long leash presents a safety hazard to yourself and other skiers.
  • Please remove your dog’s waste from the trail by flicking off the tread surface or by bagging it.
  • Please do not bag your dog waste unless you take it with you to the nearest garbage receptacle. NEVER leave bagged dog waste on or adjacent to a trail. Do not throw bagged dog waste into the woods!
  • Please see map of PRA boundary (dogs must be on leash within PRA boundary)
https://www.braggcreektrails.org/gui...r-dogs-in-wbc/

So those are the rules, which, judging by the amount of feces on the trails, no one listens to. When people fail to follow the rules, they should lose the privilege. Sorry if that means the 5% of responsible dog owners have to figure something else out. The rest of us shouldn't have to suffer in a sewer.

Maybe 1 in 5 was not on a leash. I don't follow ever single one of them around to see which ones are defecating, but I have yet to witness anyone doing anything with the waste, so I can only assume it's pretty much everyone, given the quantity on the trails.

I think you severely underestimate the amount of dogs who use the trails.

Our dog is on the trails probably 3 times a week in summer and once a week in winter. All waste is flicked off. Never off leash.

All I know is if there is one patch of poop and piss, that's one to many. No, I'm not counting.

I'm not sure what you mean by "on trails" but if you are in the wilderness, they should be on a leash to prevent negative wildlife encounters. If you are in the city, other than a dog park(and off the pathway!) the must be on a leash.

As in walking. On trails. But actually your dog only needs to be on leash in provincial and national parks. Whether its a good idea to have off leash is another story. (edit: I see you said should but still goes)

My guy is on leash 100% of time except at dog park because he is 9 months old.

Bolded, is incorrect.

He is referring to x-country ski trails. There is no reason why you need to take a dog for a walk on groomed x-country ski trails. The worst is when people just extend their leash as much as they can. Itís just asking for trouble with skiers around.

A lot of cross country trails in Bragg also allow hiking with dogs.

Its the same as everything though. Everyone needs to be respectful. The majority of dog owners are, just like the majority of skiers are.

Where/what's your "Wilderness"definition?

Provincial Parks/Federal Parks/Crown land? Leashed.
Private Property? Land owner discretion.

I just feel like dog owners who want to walk their dogs offleash should take them to the offleash park. It's irritating to me that people just let them run around. I also get annoyed by people who walk through/around the XC ski trails when there are perfectly good paths they could be on.

Off leash parks are not immune to idiots and their aggressive dogs. I prefer having my dog off leash and I am annoyed that so many areas/trails are not off leash. Dog owners who don’t pick up dog poop and who allow their aggressive/poorly trained dog to roam freely should be the focus.

This argument RGMG This is just not true. Wild dogs are not good dogs. So dogs without a good owner are not good dogs.

The statement should be All dogs are bad until they are properly trained, socialized and cared for by a good owner.
