How many points do the Flames need before the Trade Deadline?

The Flames this year don't have that swagger in their game that essentially willed them into the playoffs last season. I just don't see them getting into the dogfight on this run.

If it were me I'd start the purge tomorrow if they lost to the Sharks. Losing Russell and Hudler and some other UFA's isn't going to alter the fabric too much. And I like teams that make their trades much earlier than the deadline. It gives the buyers and the players they acquire more time to adapt into a new system.

This can't be overstated. Glencross wouldn't have helped the Flames at all, but his return enabled the Flames to obtain Hamilton.

Even if the Flames trade a guy like Russell and Jones, they could use those picks to help them improve

9 points back in the pacific and 7 out of the only reachable wild card spot. They need them all.

I don't really care if the Flames are sellers or not. They don't have much to sell. Russell is the big ticket item, followed by Hudler I suppose. Now that Jones is potentially injured, that leaves little else.
