Default Authentic German Restaurant in Calgary?

We have some German relatives staying with us for the next few weeks. We thought it would be fun to go out to a German restaurant here in Canada.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an authentic German place? Looking for high quality, high level dining.

Thanks!

A German friend took me to a German cultural center once some years back when I was curious about the cuisine. I wouldn't call it fine dining, but it was very authentic and the dining room as nice enough. I think it was close to 32nd Ave in the NE. A quick google search could probably nail it down for you.

May not be the best choice for what you are looking for, but definitely a good choice if the pickings get slim.

If it is not flooded - http://schnitzel.ca

If you happen to be out in the mountains, there is a really good central European restaurant in Radium that I can recommend.

Wurst is very good. Not sure how authentic but is definately high quality. Unfortuately they likely are closed due to flooding for a while as they are in mission

While Wurst is pretty authentic (the chef is from Munich) they are closed for 4-6 months. The beer hall and kitchen were completely submerged.

Wiener Schnitzel Haus in Bowness is pretty authentic. No clue how it's faired due to the flooding though.

Not exactly a restaurant, but if you're just looking for a little taste of home Illichmann's Sausage Shop on 36 St. just off 17th Ave. in Forest Lawn was always the place that my relatives turned to.

They tore that place down last year. Not sure what is going up in its place. It was next door to the Hooters.

The Old Salzburg or Helna's Stube? We've eat at The Old Salzburg. It was really good. Haven't tried Helna's Stube yet but it always seems to have a ton of vehicles around and it always looks packed.

The last thing your german relatives might want to eat is more german food. They will probably be interested in Canadian fare (game and beef) and Native cuisine. That's what my relatives wanted to try.

Wurst is good, more fusion than traditional German. Probably will be closed for months. I believe the German Canadian Club in NE Calgary closed down. Wiener Schnitzel Haus in Montgomery is quite expensive for what looks like a fast food joint in a strip mall.

The Bavarian Inn in Bragg Creek is authentic, but might be closed now too.
