On second thought, maybe the "flamethrower burger" isn't such a good idea after all.

Lots of summer bike ride trips as kids, some solo trips as an adult sneaking away from the kids. More blizzards from that location than I care to count.

The building next to it, in the Safeway parking lot was torn down a couple days ago, coincidence but weird.

Street Cents? Loved that show. Looking on Wiki that it started in 89, yet I have memories of watching it much earlier than that.

Was it "What's New?". My older sister had a teacher who would record the show as well.

apparently the only example of the show on YouTube (but admittedly it's a great episode):

I super miss the planetarium in the old Science Centre. So many fond memories as a wee thing.

I don't know anywhere in the northwest that bakes a decent donut anymore. And Safeway is only good when compared to TH. It's not that good.

I noticed today a Robin's sign at the other truck stop kitty corner to the Road King.

I practically lived at the Planetarium the summer it opened (1967?). I was 7 years old and I went everyday to see the 'star shows' and the NASA films played all day in (what became) the Pleiades Theater. Everything was free.

Good times. Simple times.

Been there done that. Don't waste your time. It's not a full fledged doughnut shop, it's unpredictable what they have, and their hours are terrible.

Safeway or Glamorgan FTW

This is the show, thanks so much! I would have watched it circa 1984-85 and thoroughly enjoyed it. What memories.

Sure beats the new one. I have yet to find a
Building more bland, sterile, and boring than the new TELUS Spark. Talk about unimaginative architecture. I don’t think there is one redeeming quality to that building other than the actual theatre projector quality and maybe the LED’s at night. Can anyone explain the point of all the grey scrap metal that is braced to the facade of the building? The Stanley Milner library suddenly looks decent....9

Yup,.I recall no center ice red line. No slapshot, and some other rules. A lot of them didn't have helmets on. And they played two games in an hour which seemed odd, though I was still pretty young, I wondered why it was edited and not show the whole game (edit because it would've been very boring).

Though I thought it still ran when Stampede Wrestling was on/came back. This hockey was 1230 to 130, Stampede Wrestling 130 to 230 and Maple Leaf Wwf wrestling 230 to 330?

You're probably right about that. My memory of those years is kinda hazy. Wrestling and old-timers hockey sounds like a pretty good way of killing a cold winter afternoon.

Anybody remember the skateboard/snowboard store Freewheelin'?

Was waxing my kids' snowboards last night with my daughter and I pulled out some old wax with a Freewheelin' price tag on it. I had forgotten about that store. It used to be upstairs at a building across from the Stampede, then they moved to 16th Ave south. Bought my first snowboard there: a Burton Cruise. Must have been 1989 or 1990, I think.

I actually still have some vinyl banners a guy there gave me in the mid-90s.

Oh ya, we used to love coming into Calgary and going there. Did they also have some ramps, or am I thinking somewhere else?

Was it beside/same building as The Goalie Shop?
