Maybe because it was released early during the pandemic but it is crazy we are 3 years into the PS5/Xbox Series generation. I would say so far I have been impressed with what 2023 brought for this generation but it seemed to get off to a slower start considering we are almost at the typical halfway point of a console generation.
Yeah, it's pretty crazy that it took til this year to finally get the PS5 in stores for normal purchase. At least I think it was this year, COVID messes with the tracking of time it seems. Supply chains mostly back to normal I think now.
I hope for a smooth and plentiful launch for the new Switch OLED PRO next year!
Anyone here have a PSVR2 and/or Meta Quest 3? Wife gave the go ahead to get a VR set after seeing how much fun our daughter had with the VR rides at the mall, and I'm torn between those. Price is comparable between the two, VR2 has better graphics obviously because of the PS5, but the Quest 3 has a much larger game library, and no cables seems like a big plus. Anyone have experience with both?
I don't have a Quest 3 but I have a Quest 2. Another positive with the Quest is you can hook it up to your PC so your library is even bigger. 95% of my games are from Steam.
I haven't bought a PSVR 2 yet because of the price and the smaller library. Had it been PCVR compatible I probably would have bought it. The cable thing really doesn't bother me.
Yea after doing more reading I've settled on the Quest 3. Higher resolution, better lenses, wireless, PCVR compatible, and fully backwards compatible. Sony really dropped the ball in that last regard, their VR game library is pitiful compared to Quest or PC and they really don't seem interested in fixing that. 9 months after release and the only decent exclusives they have is GT7 and a Horizon tech demo? Sony is treating VR like an afterthought, whereas Meta is hyper focused on it. Decision was a no brainer after a little bit of research

I also hear the selection of interactive videos is better with something like the Quest.
I'm a PSVR2 guy and I'm in love with it, but it also seems like I might be in the minority on that one. There's definitely a lack of enthusiasm from the bigger studios which creates a feedback loop of 'meh'.
Well I totally get the hype around VR now. The small games I loaded up on the Quest 3 itself (Beat Saber, Synth Riders, Epic Rollercoasters) are great, but connecting it to my PC to play Half-Life Alyx is where my mind was really blown. Going back to playing regular FPS games just seems lame now

I’ve always thought it would be cool to use the VR goggles but a regular controller for FPS games. Love the immersion but the way the controllers are implemented for FPS can be clunky
Playing around with the Quest 3 controller-free hand tracking is really fun when it works, but it's still pretty hit or miss. I wonder how long until we see the next Powerglove type controller, mixing the best of motion controls and hand tracking. I know there are some enterprise grade glove controllers for VR available, but they're ridiculously expensive. If Meta or Valve could somehow get the tech simplified enough to fit in a glove that's affordable for regular gamers it would be a game changer IMO

If a proper VR FPS could adopt Pavlov's guns, it would be perfect. They feel incredible and the reloading is immensely satisfying. Problem is the game is relatively basic and a lot of FPS mainstay features aren't present. The standard VR controllers are great for it though (imo).

Half-Life Alyx defaults to teleportation for movement, but you can change it to standard FPS controls with the left stick controlling movement and the right stick turns your view. I had zero issues with the default teleport method, but when I tried out the standard controls the motion sickness was pretty immediate. I'm not sure how you get around that

It's not surprising. Xbox has always been a more North American thing. Playstation has always been a bigger seller outside of NA.
make one without a screen that just hooks to the TV
Why? The last Nintendo I paid for was a cute. With out the portability.. #### Nintendo. Especially since your locked to their games and prices. I was gifted a switch which is the only reason I have one. The portability is the reason I like it. Honestly it reminds me of the sega game gear I had.
The specs even the rumored switch 2 will barely run 4k 30fps.
The proven model for these devices now is to launch with a cheaper LCD and then drop the OLED screen a couple years later. And I'll get the LCD one at launch, then get an OLED one whenever that happens and give the LCD one to my kids. Only platform I really care for now is Nintendo, they've got me locked in.
