1. After decade(s) of predominately underachieving, sure would be nice for a team that looks good on paper to play up to expectations, heck, get on a run and actually have a truly impacting season.
2. Bennett actually breaking out.
3. A surprising d or goalie prospect playing up in an impactful role on the team.

A powerplay that isn't ECHL level. Is it really that hard to accomplish?

I know this is a thread about what we want for the Flames but....
I really want ... the Leafs to miss the playoffs. I can't be the only one here that wants that right?

8 year extension for Tkachuk locked in before Christmas
Breakout year for Bennett
Breakout year for Jankowski
Hanifin puts up better numbers than Hamilton
Lindholm takes a huge leap forward
Gillies steals the backup role and starts 30 games for the Flames

One series win at minimum. I want at least two.
I will not consider just making the playoffs a good season. I'm done with Flames Fan adjusted expectations. I want some success dammit.

Flames play an up-tempo, entertaining brand of hockey and have a winning record at home and on the road. Smith plays no more than 55 games and stays healthy. One of the backups has a break-out season and emerges and a reliable backup and potential future starter. Bennett has a break-out 20 goal/50 point season centering Tkachuk and Neal, while Tkachuk draws a record number of opposition penalty minutes. Both Andersson and Valimaki emerge as legitimate NHL defensemen, giving Treliving the ability to trade Stone to Vancouver for their (unprotected) 1st (just remember who their GM is). Flames sweep the season series with the Canucks and the Oilers, including a 1-0 OT victory on April 6 that catapults the Flames into the Pacific Division title, while leaving the Oilers 1 point short of the 2nd wildcard spot.
Flames win at least 1 playoff series.
In the offseason, Canucks win the draft lottery, while McDavid demands a trade to a team with a winning culture.

The Flames accept their invitation to the White House, with no controversy *, as Stanley Cup champions.
* No controversy due to president Trump's impeachment.

Taxpayer money mainly transfer payments go to build a hockey arena with no team sitting empty for like 3 years now. Just mind boggling.

Why the hell would the Flames go to the White House, anyway?

I really like to see guys take the next step, in regards to development. For me it's the emergence of Mark Jankowski. He is most likely IMO.
One thing is certain, if this team is ever going to do some damage. We need someone from the farm to TAKE a spot due to being the best guy for the position.
I don't care if it's Andersson, or Mangiapane. You can make an argument that the slow pace of Bennett's development, has more impact on overall team success than you think.
We need this tier of player down the depth chart to make a name for themselves.

Longterm franchise goalie emerges and is ready to play 1b role. Gillies?
My biggest concern with him has always been rebound control. If he improves significantly in that area, hes an nhl goalie in my books.

It would be wonderful, problem is the atlantic has 4 brutal teams for Toronto to feed off of to pile up points, even if Florida finds a way it's likely at the expense of a metropolitan wildcard team. Leafs unfortunately are almost a lock, Even with their putrid defense I pick them to challenge Tampa for the divisional lead.

For starters I want to see honesty at training camp, If a young player comes to camp on a mission is clearly better in camp he should win a job "cough Jankowski cough"
I have a sneaky suspicion Valimaki is going to be the 2nd or 3rd best defenseman at camp and still be cut. I also think Mangiapane and Foo will be better than Lazar and Hathaway and it wont matter.
