Tried a few stouts over the weekend.
Railyard Brewing - Nitro Stout
Red Bison - Alta Mira Oatmeal Stout
Nickel Brook - Cheeky Bastard Stout.
Liked all three of them, but I am generally an easy individual to please when it comes to stouts. Really enjoyed Cheeky Bastard though.

Untapped Craft Imports is the company that represents the brewery in Alberta.
They used to have this at a place in Cochrane, but not anymore. They might be willing to bring it back in, but depending where you are, that could be a bit of a drive.

Went to Establishment Brewing's opening yesterday. Unlike a few of the local breweries, they started with everything dialed in. We did tasters of all their brews and execution was pretty spot on. One bright spot was their barrel aged brett saison. If you dig that kinda thing, this is a really nice beer. My understanding is it a few super accomplished home brewers behind it.

Sent my sister on a wild goose chase while in So Cal to purchase me some Pliny the Elder. Damn, that beer is hard to find in bottle and in stock, even with most places having a limit of 1 or 2. No luck.
These top rated breweries definitely have the right formula with extremely limited distribution imo- keeps up the intrigue and allure of their beer. Curious to see what happens with Founders CBS and KBS now that they are available just about everywhere.

Ya, I prefer it to both Force Majeure and Long Shadows, but I believe it is going to be pretty short lived- already tough to track down.

A Statement on the Proposed Wild Rose Brewery Purchase by Sleeman Breweries
https://wildrosebrewery.com/?fbclid=...iY8aF1AyuI9IHs
Quote:
We can confirm there has been an offer made by Sleeman Breweries to purchase Wild Rose Brewery. There is a shareholder vote on May 9th. If the shareholders approve the sale of the company, we will be releasing full details on May 10th. In the meantime, we wanted to clarify a few points.
When the opportunity to partner with Sleeman was presented to us, we were hard pressed not to see the numerous benefits that the deal has to offer for Wild Rose employees, the brand, and the community. And that’s why the board of directors and management are recommending to shareholders to approve the offer from Sleeman on May 9th.
Nothing is changing with our recipes. Wild Rose will be using the same brewers, same ingredients, same Calgary water and ultimately and most importantly, providing the same craft, Alberta beer that so many have come to love.

I can't imagine this being any different. Luckily there's no shortage of microbrews to find here.

Never liked WildRose much anyway, but I know they have their fans. Hope Sleeman doesn't ruin them like they did Unibroue

I liked Wildrose when they first started, but they changed their recipes awhile back and totally lost their appeal to me. Don't even know anyone who drinks them regularly, but there must be fans given how many places have it on tap

Wild Rose is fine. The multitude of micro breweries in town owe their existence to them. But they don't hold a candle to some of the other breweries in town right now. In my opinion, Cabin is the best in the city right now.

A brewery that can't seem to brew anything but IPA's? No thanks.
Born Colorado across the street is much better IMO, amongst others.

How is Cold Garden - Inglewood?
https://www.coldgarden.ca/
How many of these micro breweries do cider?
I did not know we had a "Barley Belt" - beer district:

Cold garden is really over-rated. But you can bring dogs there so its kind of cool.

Again, I said my opinion. The Super Saturation and Super Duper are just damn good to me. Not overly bitter. I don’t care for most IPAs, but I like NEPAs. Their pipe and slippers porter was fantastic too.
Born Colorado is good, but they’re too all over the map for me. They’ve got 10 different beers and a lot of them don’t taste like much.

Another Vote for Born Colorado, Their Brown Dingleberry is quite possibly the worst named, best tasting beer in Calgary.

admittedly I'm a sucker for IPAs, but I do love Cabin and have enjoyed spending time in their taproom. have been wanting to check out Born Colorado but they haven't been open the night I am usually in that area (Tuesdays) but looks like for summer they may now be open Tuesdays- will check out (now that Flames aren't playing Colorado of course )
