Icon37 Pageau to have hearing for boarding Ashton Sautner

https://www.tsn.ca/sens-pageau-to-ha...ding-1.1277021

Does JGP get suspended? Keep in mind, there was an earlier cheapshot in the game delivered by Jake Virtanen on Zack Smith.

Quote:
Ottawa Senators centre will have a hearing Thursday for boarding Vancouver Canucks defenceman on Wednesday.

Pageau received a two-minute minor penalty for boarding against Sautner in the second period of the Senators 7-4 loss on Wednesday. As Sautner attempted to clear the puck for his own zone along the side boards, Pageau hit him into the glass, dropping the Canucks forward to the ice.

Pageau, 26, has three goals and 10 points in 31 games this season. He has never been suspended in his NHL career.

The Senators will face the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.

How long can you face the boards until it's your own responsibility?

It’s definitely a penalty. No suspension.

1 or 2 games. The guys was facing the boards for a good 3 seconds, it's not like he just turned toward the boards at the last second. Pageau knew what he was doing.

I hope they throw the book at him. The NHL does an awful job of penalizing hits from behind. IMO they’re just as bad as hits to the head.

Well there ya go. Good for them.

I agree with what was said above, hitting from behind like that is so dangerous. No one wants to see guys bounce their heads of the glass.

My first thought was that it was just a body check. But after seeing it a couple times and various angles, the bottom line here is that he was staring at the numbers the whole time.

This type of check is going to get squeezed out of the league - slowly, but surely.

Man, the Canucks are so far out of my mind, that I didn't even know they had a player named Ashton Sautner

I wasn't suggesting that he didn't see the numbers. I was saying it's ridiculous that he was not allowed to be hit for a very long time because he was staring at the boards.

No one is saying he can't be hit. They're saying you can't hit him from behind no matter how long he's facing that way. If someone had stepped up along the boards and hit him shoulder to shoulder it would have been fine.

Is it also ridiculous if a player is digging for the puck in the corner with another player and someone slams into him from behind? Because it's basically the same thing.
