Giordano with a great game last night but really it is just more of the same with him. Never gives up on a play, wins one on one battles, and is patient with the puck. He is playing some of the best hockey of his career right now.

Really looking forward to seeing Gio hoist the Cup as the Calgary Flames captain.

Being undrafted, playing a season for Dynamo Moscow, everything him and his wife do for the community, I really want this to happen.

I'm not a Dougie supporter by any means, but the Hockey Writers had an interesting read:

Daryl Sutter screwed that one up, and thankfully it didn’t cost the franchise long term.

He gave lesser players 1 way deals, and almost lost Gio over not wanting to give him the same.

It was a mistake at the time, and it is a mistake in hindsight.

That was written over a month ago, only two weeks into the season. I wonder what the numbers look like now?

At the time that was written, Carolina had played 7 games and had a 4-2-1 record. Calgary had a 4-2-0 record in 6 games played. Today, Carolina has a 10-8-3 record in 21 games and the Flames have a 13-8-1 record in 22.

Hamilton had 3 points (all assists) in 7 games and was averaging 20:05 in ice time. Gio had 4 points (1G/3A) in 6 games and was averaging 25:07 in ice time.

Now, Hamilton has 7 points (3G/4A) in 21 games and is averaging 20:07 in ice time. Gio has 20 points (2G/18A) in 22 games with an average ice time of 24:23.

It's also interesting to see that, right now, Hanifin has more points than Hamilton and is averaging more ice time.

Hate to hijack a Giordano thread, he has basically been a man crush since before he became captain...but guess who is top 10 in the league in +/-.

It's not Gio, but I would suggest it is another great example of how his biggest strength is making those around him better.

These guys have Gio as front runner for the Norris

Button and Gord Miller discuss this and give the nod to Rielly

Gio is an absolute beast this year and I don't think we should discount the role Brodie has played in that. Giordano has been the main reason for the resurgence of Brodie, but I think Brodie has been almost as important to the return of offensive Gio.

They really are a great pair. They perfectly compliment one another.

I wonder if Gio is going to Giordanos in Vegas tonight. I might go over and see.

That's right folks, I'm in Vegas and going to the game. My wife surprised me.

Will GioforPM run into Giordano at Giordano's in Vegas?

Stay Tuned.

#### Reilly. Overrated. Does he elevate guys akin to Brodie and Hamilton to a higher level in the way our captain does?

No, he's just a Leafs d-man putting up a lot of offense on a high scoring Leafs team to start the season.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but in the Family Day game, Gio passed his highest ever single season point total, previously 56. Now he keeps building on it. Added another last game, for 58 points in 58 games.

I was wondering if we were seeing arguably the best season ever by a Flames D, which is a tall order knowing that MacInnis was no slouch.

I know that both MacInnis and Sutter had over 80 points, and was curious what their era-adjusted points would have been. Hockey reference had those numbers, if you put any stock in them.

MacInnis in 90-91 had 28-75-103 and +41, and the adjusted numbers worked out to 25-67-92 (also interesting that MacInnis was 27, a more typical prime age)

None of the other seasons had an adjusted point total greater than 75.

https://www.hockey-reference.com/pla...order_by=goals

Thought it was interesting.

There is a case to be made that it’s tracking to be at least the second best season ever by a Flames D!

Way to go, Gio!

I don’t think anyone could ever touch Chopper’s season, but Gio could easily make a case for second best season ever by a Flames D.

The Hockey Guy did an episode on Gio's career today, just thought a few people might be interested.

Mentioned this in the other thread but one factor might be that they are not polling on just this year. It’s more about who is a better defenceman year in and year out. Of course Gio should still be there. But those guys just have bigger reps.
