I suppose we will find out if last season was an anomaly or not. If he can't get over 20 goals playing with McDavid or on their 2nd line then he's probably done as some of his detractors here think. He's a better goal scorer than Chaisson ever was and playing with McDavid did wonders for him so I think it's fair to expect a bounce back season from Neal and the question will be just how much he bounces back.

Just a couple of unquestionable Flames GM Rules.
NEVER help the Oilers out of a crippling salary cap position...ever!!!
even if it potentially helps the Fames.
NEVER trade for the worst contract in the NHL

Good trade. Hope the first thing Lucic does is beat the *&^*ing smirk off Neal's stupid face!!

I'll only like this trade if the Flames can use their slight cap savings here to sign Phaneuf.

Neither exactly give you the warm fuzzies but I know which I'd prefer.
Really want to know the details of the NMC though before I call this either way. One big bag of meh

What about at the end of the year if it's:
Neal 20G & 20A mostly playing 1st line @6.5M
Lucic 3G & 11A mostly playing 4th line @5.25M

I think this deal is not going to work out. It's very simple - Neal was bad last year, and I don't see him much better this upcoming year. He wasn't quick, but with a good off-season he may be slightly better. Lucic at this point has almost no upside. He's on the downside of his career and toughness wasn't something that was needed with this team. So you've got a guy who may play a bit harder in Lucic, but is still a 4th line overpaid player. There was some hope Neal would at least work hard to prove his detractors wrong. Lucic physically is limited in what he can do and the speed of today's game isn't suited for him. I trust in Treliving, but this one is a head scratcher (and an aggravating one at that).

This is a real head-scratcher. Sure the Flames need more size and grit but at what expense? Neal had a terrible year but has proven that he can put up points. Lucic has gone down hill year after year. Very pissed off about this trade. This helps the Oilers and we take a step back.

Neal on the top line will cause more harm than good for Edmonton regardless of how many tap ins he gets from McDavid
