No. I was throwing a bone. Hopefully someone wiser can confirm or deny.

There's public money involved, so it has to go to a RFP. That said, I wouldn't doubt it if Ken King and company already prefer the Rossetti bid, even if they just submitted a rancid piece of pizza on top of a bunch of crinkled Post-Its with magazine cut-out letters in the pizza dough that spells out INVERTED DESIGN.

I like the design. Wings new barn is pretty slick.

I did go to an FC Barcelona game recently...it may have ignited a very small spark of interest!

It's an interesting concept, although I'm skeptical on any claim of cost saving due to a smaller footprint (pretty sure I saw a claim along those lines the last time it was discussed here), considering the structure that would be required to cantilever a significant amount of live and dead load.
I'm no structural engineer though, so I could be wrong!

I appreciate the idea of fans being brought closer to the action though.

The success of this new arena could hinge on whether or not the chefs can come up with something better than the Bobby Nick's burger.

Now that CMLC is involved, my hope is the Flames portion of the project involved letting them know their business needs, and then just backing away. The less Flames involvement, the better this thing is going to look.

Thats probably the opposite of what will happen. It will be designed to maximize revenue for the flames.

As long as it isn't designed to maximize cowboy kitsch for the Flames and Stampede Board...

Sports team managers - nay, management in most corporate environments - should stay the hell away from any architectural design. Leave it to the pros with a good vision, AND with the experience to cover the angles. Calgary needs (more) interesting architecture and this a huge opportunity for a signature piece, much like the Library or the Bow.

Please no more Cowboy anything. Whatsoever. At all.
