It's a totally different situation. His firing has been on the burner since last season ended. The poor start was the tipping point for sure but the players didn't like the guy and as long as they were winning like last season management could overlook that. When they are losing not so much.

Dubas is panicking, now is the time to trade Gio and Frolik for Tavares!

He’s a terrible coach. He would take Gaudreau off the PP or something. For some reason held Matthews off pp1 for way too long. He does stupid old fashioned things. He’s a dinosaur.

Babcock grew up in Saskatchewan so it's not like he's never lived in the prairies.

I don't get the impression that the Flames are at all interested in a coaching change right now, though.

Well yeah if you are throwing crap against the wall in hopes something sticks and ownership money doesn't matter. I can't see Babcock coming to Calgary as ownership will not want to pay the money required and really it's not like Babcock was worth what the Leafs paid him.

Can someone remind me again, I know the leafs will stay be paying him $6.25 million a year for the remaining term, but do they still pay all of that if another team signs him in the near future?

Keefe is very highly rated, but at the same time, a rookie NHL coach trying to save a team in WinNow mode, in Toronto.

That's a big ask.

I didn't expect Mike Babcock to be only 56 years old.

So is the situation the same in Calgary? Players don't like the coach but were successful last year so status quo. Now the team stinks and players still hate the coach. When does Treliving pull the plug?

Jeff O’Neil with some odd comments on TSN. Said Babcock pretends to be a nice guy, a family guy but in reality he’s an ass.

I know he’s a hard ass for a coach but is he implying he’s a bad person away from the rink and it had something to do with it? He specifically said based on people on the inside say that’s how it is.

So much for "the best coach in the world" leading them to the promised land.

Dubas already ####ed that team up anyway.

It's weird. Before last season I would have said Babcock was an amazing coach. It's amazing how quickly things turn.

Hey, Leafs management are trying to improve their team. Can’t fault them.

Treliving has done nothing to improve this team in 16 months. It’s his job to deliver results. He has done a lot of good work, and I’m in no way saying get rid of him, nor am I close to saying that - I think he’s a good GM, but he has to get to it and start delivering some direction and a path forward. His roster has holes, and what is in place has work ethic issues.

It’s usually a case of topping up. So if Babcock gets a deal paying him $5M, it’s likely Toronto stays on the hook for that $1.25M difference.
