New Hotmail/Outlook email security lockout

So, I'm trying to help my Mom get back into her Hotmail account, apparently Microsoft has gone all Fort Knox on their email security.

It doesn't help that she isn't exactly internet savvy.

Basically the account detected that there is some unauthorized access, so it locked her out.

Of course the recovery address she provided is ancient and inaccessible. So the other option is to provide a bunch of info (recent sent email subjects, recent email recipients etc etc) to help verify the account. All she could remember wasn't enough and the verification was denied.

Just wondering if anybody has any experience with this, or any ideas.

Edit- To clarify, have her try a few more times to recover the password, but chances are it won't work and she should just move on.

Yep I agree. That is the most likely next step if she can't regain access.

But being limited in internet common sense, she kind of put all of her eggs in one email basket.

I'm guessing there isn't any tricks or anything.
