I don’t believe so, no. I’m pretty sure constitutionally whomever is in power can go hog wild expanding the court if they really want to. Now I will also add that I don’t believe there is any universe that exists where Democrats actually sack up and play hardball so this is a hypothetical exercise but still. The reality is the US is about to become a very hard right country in the judicial branch for a very long time.

Devastating and shocking news. Rest in power. RBG was a tremendous person, and shouldn't just be remembered as a member of the supreme court. She was so much more than that.

This news fills me with dread, and I'm not even an American.

RBG's vacancy could be filled with a Trump lap dog before the election. Then Trump can easily get the election results thrown out if he loses.

There are no words.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was one of those people who are unbelievably smart and hardworking. Extremely driven right until the end.

Don't worry guys, the Republican senators were quite clear on this 4 years ago, so I'm sure they'll abide by that philosophy.

Quote:
This vacancy arose during Obama's final year as president, and shortly after Scalia's death was announced, Republican Senate leaders declared that because Scalia's seat had become vacant during an election year, the Senate would not even consider a nomination from the president.

FWIW Obama made the nomination on March 16, 2016. We're now 46 days out from the election. Can the Democratic senators and American public writ large find a way to delay this sufficiently?

I really wish it was Moscow Mitch that died instead of RBG.

Some other Trump stooge would just take his place.

Any chance you could get a contract to build a new dam in Kentucky?

McConnell is such an ass. Denying RBG's dying wish on the night of her passing and even further exposing himself as a terrible hypocrite. What a prick.

This is the most upset I've been about politics in a long time.

Of all the crappy things Trump has done, there was always Nov 4, 2020. Now with a stacked court and polarized everything, who knows. The US might not even have elections anymore.

I just feel like all my trust in the institutions of justice has been betrayed and I don't know what the future holds for the Western world.
