Some good lines from the old newscaster - "you're a mannequin ... I know you're smooth down there".

Bill Hader’s Saturday Night Live episode hit an all-time ratings low

http://www.avclub.com/article/bill-h...view:1:Default

Tempting as it would be to lay everything at the feet of musical guest Hozier, he isn’t solely to blame for the lackluster viewership, any more than he’s to blame for not being a Canadian thrash metal band. One of the likeliest explanations is that live viewing for SNL is simply dwindling, period, as more people opt to wait for sketches to turn up on the Internet the next day. (Or they’ve already caught them at a Groundlings show.)

And of course, Hader’s name appeals primarily to fans of Saturday Night Live itself, not the casual viewers who tune in just to see specific celebrities or bands, then complain about Saturday Night Live. Surely some of those people will tune in to see Jim Carrey on Oct. 25, and then those numbers will be reported as SNL “bouncing back,” as this cycle has perpetuated itself for the past four decades. Still, the news of it hitting its worst-ever ratings should provide ample ammunition for the show’s many critics to deride it, an opportunity that only comes around for them once a week.

Chris Rock episode should be very good.

I would like to see Wyatt Cenac host SNL.

I am going to be positive and say I hope the Chris Rock episode will be good. I am not worried about Chris though, he's a favorite of mine. His cameos on Louie were hilarious.

I just think the writing on the show is the poorest its been ever. I think good writing would cover and help the young cast but its making the show look really awful the last 2 years.

This stuck in re-run mode has to stop too. Seems they go back to the well way too much lately. Waiting to hear another Alec Baldwin, Martin Short, Kristin Wiig, Fred Armsen hosting dates for 2015 soon.

Sorry but if you watch shows like Key & Peele you can see how much better the writing is by a mile. I still tape SNL every week but I probably fast forward 90% of it. It's too bad, cause it was so funny and that retro Alec Baldwin from 1990 episode really showed it.

Just watched last weeks episode. Thats too bad about the ratings because it was much better than the previous couple episodes. Hader was great. Agreed with the Old newscaster, puppet sketches were funny... was nice to see Stefon make an appearance.

I'm guessing by the silence of this thread, most, like me, thought this was a generally solid episode on Saturday. The Carrey Family Reunion and Lincoln commercials were quite well done.

I've also noticed that Che and Jost are getting more comfortable on Weekend Update, with the delivery improving vastly. Drunk Uncle and the Romantic Comedy expert both killed it, imo.

Yeah, I enjoyed it! The Lincoln spoofs were excellent. Family reunion was funny, and weekend update is way better these days.

The monologue was atrocious though, who in the world thought that would be funny?

Really good episode overall.

Carrey's bit when he was in the wheelchair about bringing all the men into a vacant hanger with the same name was so well written.

http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/saturda...-azalea-210990

His story about renting out an airplane hangar, filling in with 250 guys named Dennis (and one Brian), and observing them while sipping on octopus urine “just to see that they would do.”

Drunk Uncle is a tour-de-force. Moynihan brings out so many different emotions.

  • “Yeah, I got trapped in a corn maze! Sorry, a Native American maize.”
  • If you can watch the NFL anywhere, then why can’t I watch it in the bathroom, Linda!”

I loved Carry and McKinnon dancing around the studio in bodysuits.

I absolutely loved the Lincoln commercials. They were fantastic. The wheelchair guy was hilarious. The monologue about all the Denis' in a room together, loved it.

I liked the one set in the cemetary, Paul and Dale or whatever their names were.

The monologue, I didn't get. Pecan Pie? Ok.

Definitely liked the Romantic Comedy chick. Overall, I do agree that Jost and Che are starting to gel and loosen up a bit. It's much more solid, Jost in particular. He was so stiff last season.

Didn't really like the Halloween costume one where they dressed up like the Sia video dancer.

Lincoln commercials were strong.

I don't like the current Weekend Update crew. I preferred Cecily.

Hated Romantice Comedy Chick.

Jim is definitely at home with sketch comedy. I'm wondering if that Dennis rant was just improv-ed. I also enjoy when Michael Che goes on those short rants during his WU bits.

Bobby Moynihan was the highlight for me. His character in the monologue was hilarious, and Drunk Uncle always kills me. I loved the way he rolled away from Che over to Jost. Speaking of Jost, he's awful. Bring back Cecily or let Che do it alone.

The Secret Billionaire skit is the best thing I've seen on SNL since Australian Screen Legends.

Pretty kick Ass performance by Prince. I just hope people don't start wearing three eyed glasses as a result because only Prince is cool enough to make that look awesome.
