Yeah, I’m fine without getting Clevinger as well. The Padres have the best system so I guess they could afford to throw prospects but the Jays can’t. I always wonder about team dynamics and wonder if having a common guy everyone dislikes would actually bring the rest together? On a young team that’s probably not a good idea but it’s probably good to have someone on the team to keep some tension. While you don’t have to show emotion outwardly, I’d like to see some vet brought in to push guys limits.

I find it interesting that Cleveland traded Clevinger, they are tied for the 3rd best record in the AL, but that is a heck of a haul they received.

He already wasn't even playing for them since his (and Plesac's) irresponsible little night out on the town. Pitching is such a strength for them, if they go with a 3 man rotation in the post season he doesn't even make the cut and ends up in the pen.

It's crazy, in the span of a season or so they have traded Clevinger, Bauer and Kluber, yet still have probably the best rotation in the AL.

Bieber, Plesac and Civale are all only 25 too. A starting pitcher factory over there in Cleveland.

Had he and another player not broke Covid protocol and put his teammates' health at risk he probably wouldn't have been traded.

Thanks, I don't pay a ton of attention to other clubs and wasn't aware he was one of the players that broke Covid protocols.

I just figured with their deep rotation they would move him in the offseason since he's still under team control iirc

The Padres despite trading a bazillion prospects in the last few days still probably have the best prospect pool in all of MLB which still has 6 guys in BA's top 100 rankings haha

They pretty much had to trade a bunch of the guys they traded because they were being blocked by guys already in the system. Unreal.

The Jays should be (and I think they are) trying to make incremental improvements that would allow them to be competitive as long as possible this season. It's good to give the young kids a chance to win and develop that edge. I think it is too early for them to go "all in" like the Padres are doing.

They aren't likely a piece or two away from being legit WS competitors so it would be a waste of potential assets that they can utilize later. Yes, they might catch lightning in a bottle but I certainly wouldn't bank on it.

Mike Minor to the A's for 2 PTBNL.

I wonder if Cobb from the Orioles is an option for the Jays.

At least he wouldn't have to travel far

There is still Bundy out there and Lynn, those two Pirates pitchers....

Honestly though, I'm fine if the Jays don't do much today.

They're likely the 8th seed at best, and their window isn't even open yet. No sense spending high end prospects for short term gains.

They already added Walker, who I'm hoping they can re-sign. Just add a decent MI or utility guy to hold the fort until Bo vomes back and then push Panik/Espinal down further from Montoyo's reach.

A similar-ish package from the Jays for Clevinger would have been:

Quantrill RHP - Pearson RHP
Josh Naylor OF - Gurriel Jr OF
Austin Hedges C - Danny Jansen C
Gabrial Arias SS (Padres #7) - Orelvis Martinez SS (Jays #7 Prospect)
Joey Cantillo LHP (Padres #9) - Adam Kloffenstein RHP (Jays #10 Prospect)
Owen Miller IF (Padres #11) - Miguel Hiraldo IF (Jays #9)

Like Roof-Daddy said, the Padres system is stacked even after these trades, this would decimate the Jays system. No Thanks.

Haha. I would have been so angry if the jays did that. Wow.

Vogelbach gets his first start as a Jay today. He's the DH.

Against a lefty. He can't hit lefties. lol Montoyo.

Unless something for a high end starter or good bullpen piece falls into their lap i'm very content with the Jays just adding some depth, in particular INF depth.

Not for them rushing a rebuild and moving out top prospects at this point.

This reminds me of the Liriano add way back when sort of.

Left handed starting pitcher with some great stuff, misses bats, but has major control issues.

This year he has 43 K's and 31 walks in 31 innings haha

Sounds like Travis Bergen going the other way?

He is a rental. Set to be a free agent at the end of the season.

Ray has good stuff, but is having control issues this year. Maybe Walker saw something in video that he change. Only have up Travis Bergen, so there is upside in this deal for the Jays.

Jesus, Ray has 1017 career strike outs in 821 career innings.

Jays must think they can quickly fix his control issues this season and will end up with a wipe out lefty in the pen or something.
